Investigation of the Genotoxic Effect of Fluoxetine Hydrochloride in Drosophila melanogaster
(KSU TARIM VE DOGA DERGISI-KSU JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURE AND NATURE, 2024-04-17) Oz, Selda; Sarikaya, Zeynep Nur; Larcin, Ozum; Sarikaya, Rabia
This study aimed to determine the potential genotoxic effect of fluoxetine hydrochloride (FLX-HCl), an antidepressant commonly used for treating depression, using Somatic Mutation and Recombination Test (SMART). Third-instar Drosophila melanogaster larvae transheterozygous for the mutations multiple wing hair (mwh) and flare (flr3) were chronically fed in a medium containing different concentrations of FLX-HCl (0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 mg/mL) in the experimental group. Distilled water, 0.1 mM ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS), and 2% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were used in negative, positive, and solvent control groups, respectively. The survival percentages were calculated by determining the number of individuals surviving when the larvae completed their development in the experimental and control groups. In all application groups, the wings of 40 individuals with both normal and serrate wing phenotypes were examined under a microscope, and genetic changes were evaluated by counting the mutant clones in the wings. The data obtained show that 1 and 2 mg/mL concentrations of FLX-HCl caused toxic effects in D. melanogaster individuals. Additionally, FLX-HCl showed a negative genotoxic effect at 0.1 mg/mL concentration, insignificant at 0.5 mg/mL concentration, and positive at 1 and 2 mg/mL concentrations in terms of total mutation evaluation and clone induction frequency in D. melanogaster individuals.

Construction of the Atmosphere in Vahîd Mahtûmî's Shehrengiz Named Lâlezâr (Yenişehr-i Fenâr)
    (FOLKLOR/EDEBIYAT-FOLKLORE/LITERATURE, 2024-05-31) Aytac, Asli
Shehrengiz can be defined as a poetic genre that presents the beauties of a neighborhood, who are famous in various arts and professions, with the elements of social life and local beauties of that neighborhood, with vivid descriptions and colorful praises. Shehrengiz texts have an important place in terms of not only recording the famous tradesmen, but also shedding light on the socio-cultural structure of the period they belong to, containing information about social and economic life, and reflecting features of daily spoken language. When evaluated together with the poet's style, shehrengiz works should be considered as socio-cultural keys that involve many clues in the context of the structure of the society and the historical texture of the place or places in question. In Turkish literature, the shehrengiz type, which was mostly written in masnavi verse, began giving examples at the beginning of the 16th century and continued until the late 18th century. The text, which is the subject of the study, is the L & aacute;lez & aacute;r (Yeni ehr-i Fen & aacute;r) shehrengiz consisting of 524 couplets, in which Vah & icirc;d Maht & ucirc;m & icirc;, one of the 18th century poets, describes the characteristics of the city of Yeni ehir, which is located in the borders of Greece today. Based on the text written in the form of masnavi , the places where the poet gave place to his description and the atmosphere created from these places were evaluated and the literary features of the expression were emphasized. The aim of the study is to illuminate the image of the city in the period and to reveal the effects of the places whose atmosphere is reflected on the mood of the people and social life by reading the characteristics of the places mentioned from the style of Maht & ucirc;m & icirc;, who successfully reflected the folk language and daily life conditions into poetry in the 18th century.

A Gastronomical product in Bursa Cuisine; Orhangazi Gedelek Pickles
(INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF GASTRONOMY AND FOOD SCIENCE, 2024-03) Gulec, Hakan; Yilmaz, Ilkay
Gastronomic identity of a region, consists of products grown, produced and presented in ways specific to that region, as well as geography, history, ethnic diversity, dietary habits and table manners, dominant flavors, and recipes. The concept of cuisine identity tries to make the cultures self-identified with cuisine, determine use of local material and the effect of various cultures upon foods and beverages. Local products are one of the components of gastronomical identity. Protection of these products and conveying them to the future generations is of importance in terms of sustaining the gastronomical definition. In this context, the aim of the research study is to determine the characteristics of Gedelek pickles, which is specific to Bursa's local cuisine, in the culinary culture and to examine its production phases. The research was carried out with 12 local producers making home-made production in the village of Gedelek of Bursa Orhangazi town by means of face-to-face with semi structured interviews. The study includes the opinions of local producers about the production, gastronomic value, new product and production techniques and sustainability of these local products bearing geographical indications. The most distinctive feature of Gedelek pickles is the use of "Gedelek Pinarbas,i Spring Water" rising in this region. The fact that Gedelek pickles maintain a texture hardness value close to industrial type pickles is related to the hard water feature of the water used. While local producers producing home-made fermented pickles are open to new products and techniques, they refrain from mechanisation and industrial production would taint the features and taste of pickles. Conscious production, training, institutional support, and promotion to be given to local producers without downgrading the local products would help these local pickles with a protected geographical indication convey the future generations.

Metataxonomic Sequencing to Assess Microbial Safety of Buffalo Yogurts in Amasra Region
(FOODBORNE PATHOGENS AND DISEASE, 2024) Delikanli-Kiyak, Berrak; Yilmaz, Ilkay
Interest in the "microbiota" of dairy products and studies on this subject is increasing day by day. In this study, homemade buffalo yogurt was collected from five different local producers in Amasra province, and their microbiota was evaluated by next-generation sequencing. Salmonella enterica was found in all yogurts (1.2-3.17%). Klebsiella pneumoniae was found to be 1.12% and 5.15% in two of the samples. Staphylococcus aureus was found to be 3.17% in only a single sample. The presence of these potentially pathogenic bacteria suggests that more attention should be paid to hygiene rules during homemade production, processing, and distribution of these products being offered for sale in public markets. These yogurt products can potentially carry risks of contamination and should be periodically checked by the relevant authorities.

Transience and the Modern Turkish Interior
(2023) Hasirci, Deniz; Ultav, Zeynep Tuna; Sumnu, Umut; AAC-5579-2020
Despite the expansion of research in modern interiors around the world and a more inclusive dialogue with regards to geography, ultimately, the field is still lacking theory and methods derived from its own specific needs rather than being adapted from architectural research, and a focus on its transient nature that is likely to lead to more impactful research and preservation results. Modern Turkish interiors research have also expanded greatly with individual, as well as projects or research groups like docomomo_tr interiors and DATUMM (Documenting and Archiving Modern Turkish Furniture) that create awareness through various forms of scholarly (documentaries, archival work) and popular (public exhibitions, popular books and magazines, newspaper pieces, and films) interiors research and several struggles are common worldwide, socio-cultural and economic reasons result in a faster pace in Turkey, creating an urgency to implement innovative methods and approaches fitting contemporary prerequisites of the field.

The Power Bases in Multiplayer Video Games
    (2023) Omerbas, Ali Cagil
This study deals with how players employ different power relations while playing videogames. Power is a difficult concept to define but it is usually explained with the ability to influence. Social psychologists John French and Bertram Raven's studies have defined five bases for social influence: coercive (based on punishment), referent (based on affection), reward (based on reward), expert (based on expertise) and legitimate (based on agreed regulations) powers. Many other studies have tested their theory in various fields, and it proved to be a lasting one. Researchers conducted studies in areas such as education, business, sports with this theory and obtained meaningful results. However, the power bases of video game players has never been studied, despite the fact that video game studies has already been established as an academic field -with many scholars discussing empowerment through games. This study focuses on measuring the power of a player over another one. There can be two types of such relations: it can either take place among players in an everybody-for-themselves kind of environment - which is called inter-power relations, or it can take place between the members of a team, working together for a common goal. This is called intra power relations. This study demonstrates that expert and reward powers are preferred in inter and intra-power relations, referent being another valid option for teamwork.

Prospective Aspect of Topography: The Example of the Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) in Istanbul
(2023) Demirel, Emre; Goudarzi, Soufi Moazemi; 0000-0002-9367-2249
The Grand Bazaar was constructed, there have been significant changes in shopping practices. Particularly the spread of Global trade boosted the opening of new shopping centres, high-street department stores and shopping malls. Despite all these changes in shopping habits, the Grand Bazaar still continues to be an actively used shopping area; it has never lost its customer interest and its socially vivid atmosphere. This research explores the reasons why the Grand Bazaar has not been lost its social dynamism over the course of time? This question has various answers, but this research argues that one of them is particularly related to its peculiar spatial formation that encourages social interactions. In this account; this research methodologically focuses on two main components, these are: how the Grand Bazaar was spatially constructed and how it was experienced by users. These purposes will be accomplished by the analyses of the writings and drawings of the important Western travellers. It is revealed that articulated in topographical account, the Grand Bazaar eliminates the boundaries between the spaces and thus between the people. This continually enhances the mutual relationships between inside and outside. This study focuses on the main interest of the topographic approach which is not much the representative qualities; re-expression of the exterior appearance of the building in shape and profile or any stylistic display, but it is more to create an open venue or a stage which enhances the spatial and social connectivity between interior and exterior worlds, ergo between individual and collective lives. As a result, the study demonstrates how the Grand Bazaar's topographical attitude lends a 'formative' aspect to an architectural context. The Grand Bazaar tries to abolish borders by emphasizing topographical aspects such as permeability, spatiality, and delay in order to create an in-between environment, and also a common social ground.

An Early Christian Martyrion and Opus Sectile Pavement from Bathonea
(2023) Sazak, Batuhan; Aydingun, Sengul; Aydingun, Haldun; 0000-0002-0309-2348; F-5144-2018
Archaeological excavations started in 2009 at the ancient harbour settlement of Bathonea on the Firuzkoy Peninsula in the Kucukcekmece Lake Basin on the western side of Istanbul. The excavations uncovered harbours, roads, squares, water structures, military, civil and religious buildings dating between the century BC and the XIth century AD. In the area coded as Area 8, surrounded by the remains of a fortress, building with a square exterior and octagonal interior plan, a domed structure and a crypt is thought to martyrion due to its characteristics. During the excavations carried out in this building, a geometrical floor slab in opus sectile technique was unearthed. In addition, mosaic pavements were recovered from the dome, arches, vaults and walls of the building. The tesserae, which appear to have been embedded in a thick plaster, are made of natural stones such as green, blue, yellow, red, white, marble, glass and tiles, as well as many gold and silver gilded ones. In this paper, the fragments of the geometric opus sectile floor tile, some of which were

"Yarman-36 Makam Tone-System" for Turkish Art Music
    (2014) Yarman, Ozan; Karaosmanoglu, M. Kemal; Karaosmanoglu, M. Kemal; 0000-0003-4534-7182; 0000-0001-9002-3326; F-8747-2014; A-3421-2016
This study offers a mathematically rigorous, yet straightforward, fixed-pitch tuning strategy to the problem of adequate sounding and notating of essential Turkish makam genera, in contradistinction to the praxis-mismatched music theory cast in effect known as Arel-Ezgi-Uzdilek (AEU). It comprises 36 tones locatable just by ear, via counting exact 0, 1 and 2 beats per second when listening to given octave, fifth and third intervals, starting from an algebraically attained reference frequency for A at 438.41 Hertz, very near the international standard A=440 Hz. The so-named Yarman-36 makam tone-system proposed in this paper accounts for hitherto omitted pitches in Ussak, Saba, Huzzam, etc... at popular transpositions, each corresponding to a habitually used Ahenk ( concert pitch level specified by a chosen Ney reed), by virtue of being based on a twelve-by-twelve triplex structure of exclusively tailored Modified Meantone Baroque Temperaments. It thus also features pleasant shades of key-colors supporting polyphonic endeavours in line with Western common-practice music.
