Item An Evaluation of the Relationship Between the Mesiobuccal Canal Configuration, the Interorifice Distance, and the Root Lengths of the Permanent Maxillary First Molars with Cone Beam Computed Tomography(DIAGNOSTICS, 2024-12) Ozemre, Mehmet Ozgur; Karslioglu, Hazal; Kamburoglu, KivancBackground/Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the mesiobuccal root canal configuration (MB RCC), the interorifice distance (IOD) and the corresponding root and other root lengths of the permanent maxillary first molars; Methods: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were acquired between 2020 and 2023 for different purposes unrelated to this study. Overall, 1550 CBCT images were retrospectively evaluated. A dentomaxillofacial radiologist with 15 years of experience evaluated the CBCT images and performed the measurements; Results: According to the MB RCC, there was no statistically significant difference between the Vertucci type II and Vertucci type IV groups in terms of the mean age and sex distribution (p = 0.694 and p = 0.273). There was no statistically significant difference in the IOD between the MB RCC groups (p = 0.755). Moreover, according to the MB RCC, there was no statistically significant difference between the Vertucci type II and Vertucci type IV groups in terms of the mesiobuccal, distobuccal, palatinal, and mean root lengths (p > 0.05); Conclusions: There was no association between the IOD and the type of RCC in the maxillary first molars. New studies conducted by collecting data from different centers to explore the different morphological features of maxillary first molars and detect their anatomical differences will provide more reliable and accurate results.Item The Craniofacial Indicators Of Aggression: A Cross-Sectional Multiparametric Anthropometry Study(2021) Gulcen, B.; Pelin, I. C.; Ozener, E. B.; 32301106Background: The craniofacial features of a person are unique and critical in the evaluation of age, gender, and ethnicity. The relationships between craniofacial properties and behavioural patterns have been one of the most common research topics. Materials and methods: There are studies on the association of facial width-to-height ratio (fWHR) and aggressive behaviour in men; however, no consensus has been reached as there are inconsistent study results. Most of the studies focus on measuring the pre-determined fWHR in searching for a link to aggression. As the literature lacks data on the associations of multiple craniofacial ratios and aggression, we aimed to study the correlation of aggressive behaviour and multiparametric anthropometric measurements of the craniofacial region in a study group consisting of university students aging 18-38 years. Results: The aggression questionnaire results showed that male students had statistically higher scores than females in all subdomains, except physical aggression. Anthropometric studies revealed that males had higher mean values of craniofacial dimensions and indices than females, except the frontal height, the total lip height, frontal index, and cranial length-head circumference index. The statistical analyses for correlations showed that frontal, upper facial, and total facial height-facial width indices correlated with general and verbal aggression, frontal and upper facial indices correlated with physical aggression, and upper facial and total facial height-facial width indices correlated with indirect aggression only in males. Conclusions: We conclude that our study represents the first example of an extensive craniofacial anthropometric research that correlates several craniofacial measurements and ratios with various aggression subdomains.
