Introduction: The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of poverty on health and quality of life of poor people aged 65 and over in Etimesgut District, Ankara. Materials and Method: A questionnaire was administered to 116 people over the age of 65 who were deemed a priority group for assistance by the Etimesgut Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation in Ankara. The questionnaire comprised questions related to socio-demographic characteristics, health status and health care utilization of elderly people, along with the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-Older Adults Module. Research data were evaluated using the Chi-Square Test, Independent Samples T Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance, Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis Test. Results: The average monthly income of the elderly participants was 168.94 +/- 54.67 Turkish liras and they lived completely under the poverty line determined for Turkey. However, it was found that women, illiterate participants and those receiving the old age pension were poorer, and of those whose income was below average, more delayed/did not seek help when they were ill. Statistical analysis revealed that total quality of life scores of participants aged 65-74 and literate participants were higher; the "social participation" scores of participants whose income was below average and those received an old-age pension were lower. Conclusion: Poverty has negative effects on the health status, health care utilization and quality of life of elderly people.

Rethinking Principles of School Mathematics during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Multiple-Case Study on Higher Education Courses Related to Teaching Mathematics
    (2021) Yilmaz, Aysenur; Kostur, Merve
The study was carried out with prospective teachers (PTs) in Primary School Teaching Program in a private university (n=43) and Middle School Mathematics Teaching program in a public university (n=46). In this paper, multiple-case study was adopted to explore PTs' opinions and to reveal the differences between two universities in terms of taking a mathematics education course through online teaching when the COVID-19 pandemic was very first appeared. The content of the course was based on the principles of school mathematics which were put forth by National Council of Teachers of Mathematics [NCTM]. Hence, the principles were used as the themes in the data analysis. For this purpose, a survey was used to explore the advantages and the challenges faced in online teaching from the PTs' perspective. The analysis of the data showed that the PTs at both universities had both positive and opposing views towards online mathematics education course as mandated by the pandemic. Besides, the technology principle in NCTM was found to be a principle in which the other principles were organized and applied according to it. PTs' reflections on the learning and teaching principles in practice were at the forefront. The reflections regarding the assessment and the equity principle were not among the principles that were frequently mentioned. Discussion on and suggestions for overcoming the challenges were elaborated on.

    (2019) Tigli, Ayca; Soy, Ebru Hatice Ayvazoglu; Aytar, Aydan; Moray, Gokhan; Haberal, Mehmet; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0993-9917; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2498-7287; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3462-7632; 30777573; AAC-5566-2019; HIR-3735-2022; AAE-1041-2021; AAJ-8097-2021
Objectives: Transplantation offers better quality of life and long-term survival benefits. Further knowledge is needed regarding exercise in daily life of transplant recipients. Here, we investigated the relationship between exercise perception and physical activity level, body awareness, and illness cognition in renal transplant patients. Materials and Methods: Our study included 53 renal transplant recipients (Standardized Mini-Mental Test score = 26.35 +/- 1.36; age = 41.11 +/- 13.52 year, body mass index = 25.96 +/- 5.26 kg/m(2), elapsed time after transplant = 3.68 +/- 1.53 year). Perceived benefits and barriers to exercise, physical activity level, body awareness, and illness cognition were assessed with the Exercise Benefits/Barriers Scale, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Body Awareness Questionnaire, and Patient Illness Perception Questionnaire, respectively. Correlations were established with Spearman test for nonparametric data, with regression analysis used to find determinants of physical activity levels. Results: We observed correlations between physical activity level and perceived benefits and barriers to exercise. There was a positive relationship between body awareness and perceived benefits and barriers to exercise and also illness cognition, with significant correlation between perceived benefits and barriers to exercise and illness cognition (P < .05). Perceived benefits and barriers to exercise (P = .006, R = 0.373, R2 = 0.139, beta = 0.373, t = 2.867, F = 8.22) were determining factors for physical activity level. Conclusions: Psychologic and physical factors, including negative emotions and body dissatisfaction, are risk factors for poor quality of life. Although it is important to increase quality of life, tools to enhance body awareness and to develop strategies to alter motor behaviors in daily living activities are needed. Treatment and assessment strategies on body awareness and illness perception should be considered, with emphasis on the importance of physical activity posttransplant.

How patients perceive healthcare services: A case of Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad - Pakistan. SERV Service QUAL Quality
    (2018) Ali, Muhammad
A field study was conducted in Ayub Teaching Hospital in the outpatient department, to evaluate the level of service quality offered by the healthcare services with a view to identifying the relationship between service quality dimensions and overall service quality. The researchers used the SERVQUAL instrument for the purpose of assessing the quality of the service offered by the healthcare workers at the outpatient department in Ayub Teaching Hospital. A sample of 246 patients in the outpatient department participated in the questionnaire survey. Descriptive statistics were used to find out mean values and variance between actual values from perceived values. To assess the strength of model regression, the aforementioned technique was adopted. The study results showed that there exists a gap between patients' expectation and actual services offered by the healthcare workers. There were five dimensions that were assessed: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. The results revealed that patients are dissatisfied with three dimensions (tangibles, reliability and assurance), but they are satisfied with the other two dimensions (responsiveness and empathy). This research adopts the marketing concept to measure the healthcare services. The SERVQUAL tool was modified as per need to meet the requirements in accordance with the nature and scope of the research. Patients' attitudes toward service quality dimensions were the concern of the research. To get a comprehensive evaluation of service quality, healthcare providers have to be considered in future research. Based on the findings of this study, Ayub Teaching Hospital's (ATH) management is in a position to recognize the patients' perceptions about the healthcare services and offer them service accordingly. Results can be used by management and government policymakers regarding healthcare to bring better and more effective services. Consequently, based on the results, new structure can be designed by adopting strategies that improve the quality of services in order to provide effective services and gain patients' satisfaction and propensity to further recommend the services of healthcare to other patients. This study investigates the healthcare quality in a small area in Pakistan. Pakistan is a developing country. Future research can adopt the SERVPREF technique, which is a more developed technique than SERVQUAL in order to measure service quality as it provides a two-factor solution for the dimensionality of health service quality.

The aim of the study; To evaluate the effect of water exercise therapy on pain, muscle strength and functionality in patients with knee osteoarthritis and compare it with the effectiveness of land exercises. Patients who received routine physiotherapy and rehabilitation under the control of specialist doctor and physiotherapists in Ayaş Physical Therapy Center were divided into two groups as in-water exercise and land exercise group. A total of 40 patients were included in our study, which consisted of two groups of 20 people each. Patients in the land exercise group; Ultrasound, Transcuteneal Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Hot-Packs, Short Wave Diathermy (KDD) and muscular strengthening exercise program were applied. In the water exercise group, in addition to the treatments applied in the land exercise program, in-water exercise therapy was applied. The patients were evaluated before the first treatment and after the last treatment during the 10-day treatment period. Before and after treatment of both groups; Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) to assess pain, stiffness and physical function, Tampa Kinesophobia Scale (TSK) to assess kinesophobia, Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire (FADA) to assess physical activity, recovery to assess treatment perspective and treatment satisfaction The Perception Scale (PRS) and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to assess the severity of pain. The hip flexor, extensor, abductor and adductor muscle strengths and knee flexor and knee extensor muscle strengths were evaluated with a dynamometer. Among the terrestrial and inland groups; VAS (p = 0.131), WOMAC (p = 0.117), FADA (p = 0.309), kinesophobia (p = 0.297), perception of improvement (p = 0.215), hip flexion (p = 0.362), hip extension (p = 0.873), hip abduction (p = 0.099), hip adduction (p = 0.193), knee extension (p = 0.059) scores. However, knee flexion (p = 0.001) increased more in the water group. As a result; Our treatments applied in both groups gave positive results. Improvements were observed in both groups in terms of pain, muscle strength and functionality. However, we could not fully prove the superiority of the in-water exercise group over the land exercise group. However, we think that our positive results will contribute to the literature in terms of the physical therapy modalities that are mainly applied in our country.

Carpenters are constantly exposed to a noise level of 82 - 100 dB in their professional lives. The sound intensity of the carpenters increases to the level of damage to the inner ear according to the location of the carpenter and the tool they use. The aim of our study; The audiometry of hearing in carpenters, transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE). A total of 62 people, 31 of whom were carpenters, 31 of whom were not exposed to continuous and / or sudden noise, were included in the study. After the hearing thresholds measurement, both groups were measured by stimulated otoacoustic emission test. The average age of the carpenters is 44.58 ± 10.33, the average age of the control group is 41.84 ± 8.65 and there is no statistically significant difference (p = 0.262). When we compared the right and left ear pure sound hearing thresholds of the carpenter and control group, there was a significant decrease in carpenters at all frequencies (p <0.05). The right ear emission values in carpenters were found statistically significantly lower at 2000 and 2800 Hz compared to the control group. When the left ear emission values of both groups were compared, the emission values of carpenters were statistically significantly lower at 1000, 2000 and 2800 Hz frequencies. As a result of the findings obtained in our study, the decrease observed in both pure sound audiometry and emission values support the development of noise-related hearing loss in carpenters.
