Comparing Software Development Life Cycle Models with Multi-criteria Decision Making Approach
(2024 10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTROL, DECISION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES, 2024) Alkis-Bayhan, Nurcan; Ozmen, Esra; Karaman, Ersin
Various software development life cycle models are adopted in the software domain. The selection of appropriate models is the main concern of this research since many factors affect the selection of these models. Characteristics of models, their advantages and disadvantages, in which projects they will be used, and how important the characteristics of the models have been studied in numerous research. In the scope of this research, first, the most preferred software life cycle development models, their features, and the factors that affect their selection were determined. Second, the study aims to compare the influential factors in selecting these models to determine the critical factors and rank them according to their importance level. An Analytical Hierarchy Process study was adopted and performed to achieve this comparison. Lastly, each software life cycle development model was compared to each other, and the important models were revealed in terms of each factor. According to the research results, the most critical factor in the model selection was "Project size."

Causal Effect of Obesity on the Probability of Employment in Women in Turkey
(ECONOMICS & HUMAN BIOLOGY, 2023) Pekkurnaz, Didem
This study aims to investigate the causal effect of obesity on the employment probability of women in Turkey via the instrumental variable approach by using data from the 2018 Turkey and Demographic Health Survey. Obesity prevalence in the area of living and the overweight status of the oldest child, which are the most common types of instruments seen in the literature, are used as instruments. Consistent with the OLS result, the 2SLS estimate indicates that obese women are statistically significantly less likely to be employed when the overweight status of the child is used as an instrument. On the other hand, the statistically significant effect of obesity disappears when the area level obesity prevalence is used as the instrument. In addition, obesity in women decreases the likelihood of employment in the services sector and full-time jobs and employment with social security. Although the results of this study do not indicate the source of the effect found, the presence of a causal relationship for women should not be ignored when the economic burden of obesity for Turkey is considered.

Navigating the Storm: The Impact of Covid-19 on Turkish Exports
(2023) Koymen Ozer, Seda; Maggioni, Daniela
The Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on global exports. The outbreak of the virus disrupted supply chains and caused a sharp decrease in demand for goods and services, which resulted in a decline in manufactured exports worldwide. In this study, we investigate the effect of Covid-19 on Turkish manufacturing exports by using a firm-product level dataset at monthly frequency over 2019-2021. In particular, we aim to understand the heterogeneous impact of the pandemic on different types of products in terms of their substitutability, complexity and factor intensity. We also disentangle the diversified repercussions of the shock by taking into consideration the participation of firms in GVCs. Our results suggest that the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a drop in Turkish firms' exports especially in the first 6-months of 2020 and their recovery has only became apparent in the second half of 2021. Also, firms exporting less substitutable, more complex and sophisticated goods, as well as goods with higher-physical and human-capital intensity have experienced a milder drop in their exports after the shock and have recovered faster. Moreover, exporting firms that are more involved in GVCs by sourcing their intermediates abroad have been less resilient as they were more exposed to the risk of supply chain disruptions. This higher risk exposition should be assessed together with their lower resilience associated with the properties of their output (less sophisticated, low human capital intensive and highly substitutable products).

Towards a Model Based Process Assessment for Data Analytics: An Exploratory Case Study
(2020) Gokalp, Mert Onuralp; Kayabay, Kerem; Gokalp, Ebru; Kocyigit, Altan; Eren, P. Erhan; 0000-0002-4030-2447; S-5921-2016
The ability to leverage data analytics can enhance the decision-making process in organizations by generating valuable insights. However, there is a limited understanding of how organizations can adopt data analytics as part of their business processes due to a lack of comprehensive roadmap with a structural approach like a Process Capability Maturity Model (PCMM). In this study, the development of a PCMM based on the ISO/IEC 330xx standard for the data analytics domain is proposed to assist organizations in assessing their data analytics processes capability level and providing a roadmap for improving them continuously. Towards this goal, we conducted an exploratory case study for one data analytics process to evaluate the applicability and usability of the proposed approach.

Protection of Personal Data Transmitted via Web Service Against Software Developers
(2020) Celik, Mahmut; Alkan, Mustafa; Alkan, Abdulkerim Oguzhan; ABD-6363-2021
Through the widespread use of information technologies, institutions have started to offer most of their services electronically. The best example of this is e-government. Since institutions provide their services to the electronic environment, the quality of the services they provide increases and their access to services becomes easier. Since personal information can be verified with inter-agency information sharing systems, wrong or unfair transactions can he prevented. Since information sharing between institutions is generally done through web services, protection of personal data transmitted via web services is of great importance. There are comprehensive national and international regulations on the protection of personal data. According to these regulations, protection of personal data shared between institutions is a legal obligation; protection of personal data is an issue that needs to be handled comprehensively. This study, protection of personal data shared between institutions through web services against software developers is discussed. With a proposed application, it is aimed to take a new security measure for the protection of personal data. The proposed application consists of a web interface prepared using React and Java programming languages and rest services that provide anonymization of personal data.

Evolutionary Philosophical Games In Strategic Management
(2023) Ozkan-Canbolat, Ela; Ozkan, Gulberk; Beraha, Aydin
Purpose This paper aims to show that evolutionary game theory not only provides a general and unified theory of political philosophy and strategic management theories but also a positive theory of interactive behavior. Design/methodology/approach This study suggests a way of the evolutionary game-theoretical model. Findings The model presented in this paper demonstrates coopetition is derived from balance points in multi-actor games. As the political-philosophical address of those strategic games will of all becomes convention in this balance point at which common knowledge occurs global optimum. Research limitations/implications This study explores the connections between several streams in philosophy and strategic management. What does a particular philosophy contribute to strategic management with respect to game theory? When addressing this question in historical or exploratory terms, or in a combination of both, the end result is similar: particular philosophical issues, properly explained, are discussed in relation to important questions in strategic management. Practical implications What are the psychological and behavioral underpinnings of strategic decisions of this kind? What type of cognitive frames and managerial mental models, such as the game-theoretical model, might enable or hinder the integration of real-world problems in strategic decision-making? Social implications What explains the evolution of such mental models, as well as the development of philosophical ideas, in informing the origins? How does the evolution of social and political contexts influence change in the cognitive and behavioral underpinnings of strategic decision-making? Originality/value This study highlights the overt power of strategic management ideas - competition, cooperation and coopetition - which have historically been built on the foundations of organizational theory, while also underlying the potential of philosophies, collective wisdom and Condorcet's jury theorem and Rousseau's (1998) correctness theory in games of evaluation. This study investigates whether the many produce better decisions than the wise few.
