Item Counterfeit Supply Chains(2015) Eser, Zeliha; Kurtulmusoglu, Bahar; Bicaksiz, Adnan; Sumer, Selay IlgazThis paper studies supply chains of counterfeits in Turkey based on insider information from actors in such chains as well as from knowledgeable witnesses. The study depends on semi-structured interviews with actors in or witnesses to such chains. Findings suggest that (i) various forms of counterfeit supply chains exist, (ii) profit margins of counterfeiters seem to be higher than legitimate businesses, (iii) counterfeiters are discouraged if they experience actual or threatened litigation, (iv) law enforcement places higher priority on fighting counterfeits that threaten public health and safety, and (v) counterfeits appear to drive down the prices of legitimate products. Overall, poor action by legitimate businesses against counterfeiters, weak institutional efforts on the part of law enforcement and low consumer awareness appear to foster counterfeit supply chains, or at least contribute to their persistence. There are several scientific studies related to ecovillages in other countries; however, there are no such studies in Turkey. This study is aimed to examine the consumer perceptions, attitudes and preferences regarding ecovillages. Based on 420 surveys with domestic and foreign consumers in Turkey, the findings revealed that, ecovillages are generally preferred by people who are between the 35-54 years old, and have high level education and income. "Being a sustainable life style" and "Having an authentic experience in a rural area" are identified as the most important factors that influence consumers' demand for ecovillages. Findings also manifested that transportation to the ecovillage accommodation, supporting services and attractions are the important factors for consumer pereferences. (C) 2015 The Authors. A novel panel dataset is used, covering 109 origin countries whose citizens came to Turkey and received medical treatment during 2012-2014. After accounting for control variables such as religious similarity, Turkish diaspora in the origin country, physical distance, GDP per capita and number of inbound tourists, the study finds that cultural distance has an impact on the choice of destination for medical tourism. This impact persists at the medical specialty level.Item Effects of Inflation Target Misses on Inflation Expectations Formation: A Comparative Analysis(EconAnadolu 2011 Yılı Konferansı Websitesi. This paper examines whether inflation target misses induce any structural differences in the inflation expectations formation via linear ordinary least squares econometrics. The analysis is conducted in a comparative fashion for the inflation targeting emerging market economies (EMEs) in order to investigate whether historic record of high inflation in those countries created intrinsic difficulties in keeping inflation expectations under control. The results suggest that in the emerging market economies, even if the Central Bank (CB) achieves its target, agents are likely to place more weight to the lagged inflation than the current inflation target. This may be evaluated as evidence that in EMEs, there is inflation inertia that complicates the process of controlling inflation expectations. Furthermore, the results for the whole sample of inflation targeters suggest that if the CBs do not achieve their targets, the total weight placed on the lagged inflation will likely to be higher than that of their inflation targets. Thus, inflation target misses can be evaluated as a causal factor for inflation inertia. In addition, we find further evidence on the presence of asymmetric relations between overshooting and undershooting for the whole sample. Yet, this is observed to be validated only for the EMEs.Item The Impacts of Persuasive Messages on Students' Motivation and Learning Management Systems Use(2016) Alkis, Nurcan; Temizel, Tugba Taskaya; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6393-8907; GQP-8101-2022Persuasive messaging is used to change individuals' behaviours in a specific way, which are effective mechanisms in decision making and are mainly created based on persuasion strategies. Persuasive messaging has been applied in numerous contexts such as e-health, fund-raising. In this study, the effects of Cialdini's six persuasion principles (authority, scarcity, commitment, liking, consensus, reciprocation) in education context were studied via persuasive messaging for the first time in the literature. An experimental study was conducted with 147 students in an introductory IT course. To collect data, initially students filled motivated strategies for learning questionnaire (to measure motivation), Big Five Inventory (to measure personality) and susceptibilities to persuasion strategies scale (to measure persuadability). Treatment and control groups were created according to personality scores, motivation scores, persuadability scores obtained from the pre-survey, class type (online class or blended class) and departments of the students to form homogenous groups. One treatment and one control group were created for each class type making a total of 4 groups. During 12-week trimester, the treatment groups were sent messages including persuasive cues while the control groups were sent messages without persuasive cues or no messages. The messages included midterm reminders, assignment reminders, online quizzes, online discussions and related shares. At the end of the experiment, the students' Learning Management System (LMS) use and motivation (all of which refers to general attendance to the course) differences in control and treatment groups were compared. Additionally, students' opinions about the messages were explored. The results showed that there is no significant difference between the two student groups' LMS uses and motivations. However, the students' opinions about the messages in the treatment groups were more positive than the students in the control groups which show that persuasive messages are more effective. This study suggests that adoption of persuasive cues in messages should be considered if the instructors want to take their students attention to their announcements or course related messages especially in online learning environments.Item The Moderating Role of Self Efficacy on the Perceptions of Justice and Turnover Intentions(2016) Celik, Duysal Askun; Yeloglu, Hakki Okan; Yildirim, Olcay Bilge; L-1624-2017Previous research in organizational behavior has reported many variables serving as either mediators or moderators in the predictive relationship between justice perceptions and turnover intentions. So far, none of the studies seems to have considered the possible influence of self-efficacy as a moderating variable in that relationship. Positive organizational behavior approach strongly offers usage of individual capacity variables for producing positive organizational outcomes (Luthans, 2002). In this study, we have explored the moderating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between justice perceptions and turnover intentions. Nine-hundred and four employees coming from private companies of Istanbul and Ankara, in Turkey, participated in the study. To analyze the results, we have used confirmatory factor analyses and regression analyses. Our results revealed important findings in relation to the moderating effects of different self-efficacy dimensions. We have found a negative relationship between justice perceptions and turnover intentions. For self-efficacy dimensions, many interaction effects were as expected, except for those high in willingness to expend effort in completing the behavior. We discussed the results in light of certain theoretical assumptions and offered related recommendations for organizational practice and future research. (C) 2016 The Authors. The best example of this is e-government. Since institutions provide their services to the electronic environment, the quality of the services they provide increases and their access to services becomes easier. Since personal information can be verified with inter-agency information sharing systems, wrong or unfair transactions can he prevented. Since information sharing between institutions is generally done through web services, protection of personal data transmitted via web services is of great importance. There are comprehensive national and international regulations on the protection of personal data. According to these regulations, protection of personal data shared between institutions is a legal obligation; protection of personal data is an issue that needs to be handled comprehensively. This study, protection of personal data shared between institutions through web services against software developers is discussed. With a proposed application, it is aimed to take a new security measure for the protection of personal data. The proposed application consists of a web interface prepared using React and Java programming languages and rest services that provide anonymization of personal data.Item Sustainability Reports Disclosures: Who are the Most Salient Stakeholders?(2016) Sener, Irge; Varoglu, Abdulkadir; Karapolatgil, Ahmet ArifDue to the importance of stakeholders for the sustainability of the companies, there exists a research interest to identify the important stakeholders. With this study, most salient and other groups of stakeholders were identified based on a content analysis of sustainability reports of 78 large-scale companies. Although many researches are undertaken in developed countries based on sustainability reports that are popular tools for information disclosure for the companies, similar research in developing countries is still at infancy. The findings of the study indicate shareholders and government to be the most salient stakeholders regardless of industry difference. (C) 2016 The Authors. Erhan; 0000-0002-4030-2447; S-5921-2016The ability to leverage data analytics can enhance the decision-making process in organizations by generating valuable insights. However, there is a limited understanding of how organizations can adopt data analytics as part of their business processes due to a lack of comprehensive roadmap with a structural approach like a Process Capability Maturity Model (PCMM). In this study, the development of a PCMM based on the ISO/IEC 330xx standard for the data analytics domain is proposed to assist organizations in assessing their data analytics processes capability level and providing a roadmap for improving them continuously. Towards this goal, we conducted an exploratory case study for one data analytics process to evaluate the applicability and usability of the proposed approach.
