(Başkent Üniversitesi Ataturk Ilkeleri Uygulama & Arastirma Merkezi, 2024-09-06) Yesiltuna, Serap
The Child Welfare Agency, formerly known as the Himaye-i Etfal Society in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, was transferred to the Republic and continued its operations under a new framework. This institution played a pioneering role in safeguarding the well-being of children, who represented the future generations. This institution, which Atat & uuml;rk attached special importance to and was headed by the esteemed physician and intellectual Fuat Umay, took necessary measures to protect not only children but also women. This research focuses on the magazine Ana ( Mother ), which was published with the objective of promoting these ideals by The Child Welfare Agency. The study examines the portrayal of women in the magazine and investigates the state's perspective on women during its publication period. The magazine's approach to women being a mother and being woman were examined separately, and its approach to men and fathers was also analyzed to make the perception of women more comprehensive. Ana na was also examined in terms of the role of the new woman in the nation-state building for the creation of the new society. In this research, both text analysis and visual data analysis were used as methods.

Efficiency in International Logistics: Trade, Emissions and the Case of Türkiye
    (Başkent Üniversitesi, 2025-09-25) Ergün,Mustafa
Purpose: This study examines the environmental efficiency of international logistics by exploring the relationships among trade volume, port infrastructure, energy intensity, and GHG emissions across countries. It aims to classify logistics typologies and evaluate the environmental impacts of trade-driven operations, with Türkiye as a focal case. Methodology: A cross-country empirical framework integrates data on per capita CO₂, methane, total GHG emissions, energy intensity, and trade volumes. The study uses data from the World Port Index (2019), TradeMap (2024), and Our World in Data (2024), the study applies K-means clustering to identify environmental logistics typologies and OLS regression to examine the effects of trade and energy intensity on CO₂ emissions. Türkiye is used as a comparative reference point. Findings: The study identifies three logistics typologies: environmentally efficient, transitional, and emissions-intensive. Regression results show energy intensity as the strongest predictor of CO₂ emissions (p < 0.001), while trade volume and its interaction are not significant. Türkiye falls within the transitional cluster, characterized by moderate energy consumption and relatively low emissions, even with high trade activity. Implications: The results underscore that sustainable trade hinges on energy-efficient logistics rather than reduced trade volumes. Policymakers should focus on optimizing energy use and modernizing infrastructure. Integrating emissions metrics into logistics and trade strategies can support greener transitions, especially in emerging economies. Limitations: The use of country-level data may obscure regional disparities and sector-specific emissions. Additionally, clustering may oversimplify complex logistics systems. Future research should incorporate subnational and logistics-specific data for greater precision.

(Başkent Üniversitesi, 2025-03-26) Yavuzoğlu, Ömer; Tuzlukaya,Şule; Asbaş, Caner
Purpose: This study aims to enhance our understanding of the interplay between social networks and international migration, shedding light on migrants' decision-making and integration into new societies. The research examines the social network patterns of refugees from various nationalities who left their home countries due to institutional changes and were granted refugee status, particularly those resettled via Turkiye. Methodology: The data from the UNHCR Resettlement Data Finder portal is analyzed to gain insights into the migration process. For analyses, social network analysis is implemented. As a result of the analyses, social network maps for migration traffic between immigration and emigration countries are prepared and degree centrality parameters for these countries are calculated for the years between 2003 to 2021. Findings: Analysis outcomes indicates that the migration and resettlement occurring through Turkiye has an impulse characteristic and driven by some economic and political events with significant and large effect called systemic shocks. Implications: This study has contributions to the literature and fills some gaps. First, it explains change and evolution in social networks, particularly migration networks with impulse approach and institutional shocks. Second, the integration of social network theory and social network analysis into migration studies in a new way has been performed. Also, evolution mechanism of migration flows has been expressed in terms of and compared to social network theory. Limitations: Since immigrant data were taken from the UHNC database, personal reasons of immigrants could not be included in the study.

The Rise of a New World Order and The Role of Higher Education
    (Başkent Üniversitesi, 2024-03-31) Sarıaslan,Halil
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to judge and/or interpret the consequences of some great political and socio-economic changes that have taken place in our world within the last few decades. Methodology: It is asserted if all these changes are put together and examined from a systems approach viewpoint, one can realize that some gigantic trends are taking place in our world, and that these trends have been shaping up a new world order in the 21st century step by step. Findings: Rather than the haphazard progress of the rise of the new world order, the support and contribution of higher education institutions is recommended. Higher education can play an important role in supporting the globalization process in the right direction, and the study will explain what it can do for this. Implications: The new world of the 21st century will be a single globe, where pluralistic democracy and competitive market economy are complementing each other, and that all human beings are to be considered as equal and free global citizens of this world. This process is significantly being accelerated by computerized technologies. It is thought that in such a global world order, closer relations can be developed and cooperation will be easier as doctrinal ideologies among countries disappear and countries have much more common political and economic values. Limitations: In the study, there is no analysis was made at the country level to examine existing cultural differences, and the issues were discussed only from a global perspective.

Does Blue-Collars’ Well-Being Always Enhance Job Engagement? The Moderating Influence of Meaningful Work
(Başkent Üniversitesi, 2023-09-30) Kızrak, Meral; Güner Kibaroğlu,Gamze
Purpose: Integrating the assumptions of Self-Regulation Theory, the Job Characteristics Model and the Positive Psychology Approach, this empirical study aims to investigate the moderating role of meaningful work in the relationship between well-being and job engagement among blue-collar workers, contributing to an enhanced understanding of the complex interplay between these constructs. Methodology: The research adopted a quantitative research design by utilizing data obtained from blue-collar workers (n:237). The data, collected through an online method using scales with high levels of reliability and validity, was analyzed using Smart PLS 4 and IBM SPSS 26 software. The hypotheses and research model were tested employing the Bootstrapping analysis and structural equation modelling. Findings: The relationship between well-being and job engagement among blue-collar workers is influenced by the level of meaningful work, meaning that high meaningful work corresponds to a positive well-being-job engagement link while low meaningful work alters this relationship by negatively affecting job engagement through well-being. Implications: Managers should adopt a supportive leadership style in the blue-collar work environment to enhance the well-being and job engagement levels of employees. Additionally, blue-collar workers should have diversified tasks to increase their interest in their jobs and the level of meaningfulness associated with their work. Limitations: Limitations include a Turkish-only participant sample, potentially limiting generalization; self-report measures introducing response bias; cross-sectional data hindering causal relationship establishment; and a sole reliance on quantitative methods, omitting qualitative insights.

Social Network Theory in Project Management: A Bibliometric Analysis
    (Başkent Üniversitesi, 2023-09-30) Hafizoglu,Mustafa; Tuzlukaya Öz,Şule
Purpose: This study employs a bibliometric analysis of project management literature from 2001 to 2022 to investigate the use of social network theory in project management. The main goal is not only to present the current state of the social network theory usage in project management but also to explore emerging trends of this new field in project management. Methodology: Bibliometric analysis is used by focusing on related articles between the years 2001-2022 in the Web of Science database to investigate the state and evolution of social network theory in project management. Cluster analysis which is a powerful tool employed in SNA (Social Network Analysis) is utilized for the grouping of items based on similarities or distances between them. Findings: The study revealed that although the Social Network Theory (SNT) approach in project management is gaining popularity, its implementation remains limited. The literature primarily focused on specific project types, such as construction projects, while neglecting others that involve multiple stakeholders and relationships, such as innovation, R&D, IT, space, and agricultural projects. Moreover, the study identified that SNT is predominantly used in three knowledge areas, namely, risk management, stakeholder management, and knowledge management. Implications: Understanding the SNT approach in project management can help project managers create more effective teams, improve stakeholder engagement, foster collaboration and innovation, and mitigate project risks. Limitations: This study is limited to Web of Science database. Future research may extend our efforts by digging into more databases.
