Item AN APPLICATION ON DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF ORDER m(2020) Altintas, Osman; Kilic, Oznur OzkanIn this paper we introduce the classes T-n (p, lambda, A, B) and K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B) and derive distortion inequalities of the functions belonging to class K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B). Further we apply to the (n, delta) - neighborhoods of functios in the class K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B).Item APPROXIMATION BY A GENERALIZED SZASZ TYPE OPERATOR FOR FUNCTIONS OF TWO VARIABLES(2014) Cetin, Nursel; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; Atakut, CigdemIn the present paper, we define a new Szasz-Mirakjan type operator in exponential weighted spaces for functions of two variables having exponential growth at infinity using a method given by Jakimovski-Leviatan. This operator is a generalization of two variables of an operator defined by A. Ciupa [1]. In this study, we investigate approximation properties and also estimate the rate of convergence for this new operator.Item Approximation by Chlodowsky Type Q-Jakimovski-Leviatan Operators(2016) Dalmanoglu, Ozge; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; ABF-5851-2020This paper deals with the Chlodowsky type q-Jakimovski-Leviatan operators. We first establish approximation properties and rate of convergence results for these operators. Our main purpose is to give a theorem on the rate of convergence of the rth q-derivative of the operators.Item Approximation Properties of Baskakov-Balazs Type Operators for Functions of Two Variables(2015) Atakut, Cigdem; Buyukyazici, Ibrahim; Serenbay, Sevilay K.; ABF-5851-2020In this paper, we study Baskakov type positive operators in polynomial weighted spaces of functions of two variables. We obtain some well known operators by using our operators which are special cases of them. We give theorems on approximation, on the degrees of approximations of functions and the Vornovskaya type theorem for these operators. Finally, we present an open problem concerning the q analogue of these operators.Item Approximation Theorems for Kantorovich Type Favard-Szasz Operators Based on q-Integers(2017) Dalmanoglu, Ozge; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; ABF-5851-2020In this paper we introduce the q-analogue of Kantorovich generalization of Favard-Szasz type operators and investigate their approximation properties. We first give basic convergence results by using Korovkin's Theorem and then estimate the rate of convergence by using modulus of continuity. We also give a local approximation theorem and study weighted approximation properties of these new operators.Item Are the Photosynthetic Performance Indexes and the Drought Factor Index Satisfactory Selection Criterion for Stress?(2015) Cicek, Nuran; Arslan, Ozlem; Culha-Erdal, Sekure; Eyidogan, Fusun; Ekmekci, Yasemin; ACA-9644-2022This study was conducted to assess the drought stress and the recovery responses of twenty one chickpea cultivars (Cicer arietinum L.) grown in Turkey. 20-day-old seedlings were subjected to mild drought conditions for 7 days, recovery period of 3 days followed. Then a moderate stress period of 10 days was applied, followed by recovery period of 4 days. Finally, severe stress period of 13 days was applied, followed by recovery period of 5 days. Drought stress treatments were observed to have an adverse effect on photosynthetic efficiency, but also malondialdehyde, total chlorophyll (app. half of cultivars) and carotenoid contents of leaf tissue have increased when compared with their controls. 21 chickpea cultivars were classified into four groups; highly tolerant, tolerant, less tolerant and sensitive, according to the drought factor index (DFI), the values calculated by photosynthetic performance index (PItotal). Only four cultivars recovered from severe drought stress conditions. Aziziye and Diyar 95 cultivars may be suggested to be cultivated in drought-prone areas. In general, the present results indicate that: 1. PItotal and DFI are very satisfactory selection criterion for drought stress. 2. The recovery processes of plants exposed to environmental constraints should be investigated to make the right selection.Item ASSESSMENT OF A MULTINATIONAL ONLINE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON ONLINE TEACHING: REFLECTIONS OF CANDIDATE E-TUTORS(2017) Kalelioglu, Filiz; Adnan, Muge; Gulbahar, Yasemin; 0000-0002-7729-5674; AAF-8110-2019Teaching online requires different skills, roles and competencies for online instructors compared to teaching in traditional learning environments. Universities should offer ongoing support in various forms to help academic staff through their online journey. This paper provides insights into a multinational faculty development program for teaching online, elaborating on results of expectancy and satisfaction surveys. From a local program to a subproject within the Swiss National Science Foundation Project Scopes, e-Tutor aimed at expanding competencies in online lecturing and providing OER material for training colleagues. Designed in the form of a descriptive case study, this research was conducted with 34 attendees of e-Tutor. Data was collected using an e-learning readiness and expectancy questionnaire, and open-ended questions after the program to measure satisfaction. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey data and content analysis for open-ended data. Participants considered e-Tutor a well-planned and targeted program with good theoretical and practical balance. Duration of such courses, opportunities for adaptation to real-life situations, and localization of the content are areas to be explored further. For future studies, it would also be interesting to see whether participants can apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to create efficient online learning environments.Item Being a Young Speaker of the Gagauz Language in Post-Soviet Context(2023) Inan, Kayhan; Kirmizi, Gulin DagdevirenThe concept of identity assumes great importance in the context of endangered languages. In this study, the identity perceptions of Gagauz adolescents were investigated using Bucholtz and Hall's (2005) sociocultural linguistic approach. To this end, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with three adolescent Gagauz speakers who had distinctive profiles in terms of Gagauz identity. Bucholtz and Hall's indexicality principle, specifically the use of WE- and THEY- references, was taken into consideration in the analysis of interviews held with young Gagauz speakers. In the semistructured interviews, the participants responded to specific questions that probed self-identification, the relationship between the Gagauz language and ethnicity, the future of Gagauz people and Gagauz language, and perceived linguistic (in)security when speaking Gagauz and Russian languages, as well as language choice at school. The findings show that the participants have different profiles and use various indexical references and linguistic strategies regarding group membership. The influence of Russia and the Russian language on Gagauz identity is salient in social life, bureaucracy, and politics. As a result, the strong identification with ethnic identity and perception of Gagauz identity does not help maintain the Gagauz language in Gagauzia.Item Beware of Imitations: All about Eve (1950)(2017) Raw, LaurenceItem Bilgisayar Programlama Derslerinde Öğrenme Motivasyonu Ölçeğinin Türkçe Uyarlaması: Geçerlilik ve Güvenilirlik Çalışması(Başkent Üniversitesi Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, 2018) Avcı, Ummuhan; Ersoy, Halil; 0000-0001-7007-1478; 0000-0003-1598-7656Bu araştırmanın amacı Law, Lee ve Yu 2010 tarafından geliştirilen Bilgisayar Programlama Derslerinde Öğrenme Motivasyonu Ölçeği’ni Türkçe’ye uyarlamaktır. The aim of this study is to adapt the Learning Motivation in Computer Programming Courses Scale developed by Law, Lee ve Yu 2010 to Turkish. In order to determine its validity and reliability, the scale consisting of 19 six-point Likert-type items within six factors individual attitude and expectation, challenging goals, clear direction, reward and recognition, punishment and social pressure and competition was applied to 312 engineering faculty students at a private university. When the results of the confirmatory factor analysis were examined, it was confirmed that the scale had six factors, and the goodness of fit indices are at an acceptable degree. The reliability of the scale was assessed by the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficiencies were found to be 0.90 for the whole scale and between 0.71 and 0.83 for the factors. These results show that scale is a valid and reliable measuring tool for learning motivation in computer programming coursesItem Career Indecision and Career Anxiety in High School Students: An Investigation through Structural Equation Modelling(2018) Nalbantoglu Yilmaz, Funda; Cetin Gunduz, HicranPurpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between career indecision and career anxiety (career anxiety in terms of the effect of family and choice of profession) in high school students through structural equation modeling (SEM). Research Methods: The method used in the study is the relational model. The study group consisted of 444 students studying at 11th and 12th-grades. Research data was collected using The Scale for Career Anxiety and Career Decision Inventory. Findings: According to the model established, it was concluded that career indecision had an important effect on career anxiety in terms of family effect and choice of profession. In other words, for high school students, as scores related to career indecision increased, their scores related to career anxiety they experienced in terms of family effect and choice of profession also increased. Implications for Research and Practice: In order to decrease career anxiety that high school students experience during the career decision process, it is suggested to determine reasons for career indecision, and to plan career guidance process. In addition, supporting occupational development process with family guidance and professional counseling studies, giving weight to counseling services within the scope of attention, abilities and occupational values, supporting career research, and creating opportunities would also support professional decision-making skills. By this way, difficulties in decision-making related to occupational indecision and career anxiety may be precluded. (c) 2018 Ani Publishing Ltd. We give coefficient bounds estimates, distortion bound and growth theorems for the functions belonging to this class.Item Coefficient estimates for the class of quasi q-convex functions(2020) Altintas, Osman; Aydogan, MelikeIn this paper we introduce and investigate the class of P-q(lambda, beta, A, B), which is called quasi q-starlike and quasi q-convex with respect to the values of the parameter A. We give coefficient bounds estimates and the results for the main theorem.Item Comparative physiological and proteomic analysis of cultivated and wild safflower response to drought stress and re-watering(2021) Culha Erdal, Sekure; Eyidogan, Fusun; Ekmekci, Yasemin; 33707869Drought is one of the major environmental stress that adversely affect the growth and development of oil seed plant, safflower. There is a limited knowledge on proteomic responses to support physiological, biochemical changes in how safflowers can regulate growth and metabolism under drought conditions and followed by re-watering. The changes in morphological, physiological, biochemical and proteomics of safflower genotypes (Carthamus tinctorius L.; Remzibey-05 and Linas, tolerant and sensitive cultivars, respectively, and C. oxyacantha M. Bieb., wild type) after exposure to drought and followed by re-watering have been examined. Drought negatively affected the shoot weight, water content, chlorophyll fluorescence, and biochemical parameters, including photosynthetic pigment, proline, MDA, and H2O2 contents and antioxidant enzyme activities in all genotypes, while the re-watering period allowed Remzibey-05 to recover, and it even provided the wild type completely recovered (approximately 100%). A total of 72 protein spots were observed as differently accumulated under treatments. The identified proteins were mainly involved in photosynthesis and carbohydrate, protein, defense, and energy metabolisms. Protein accumulation related to these metabolisms in Remzibey-05 were decreased under drought, while increased following re-watering. However, sensitive cultivar, Linas, could not exhibit an effective performance under drought and recovery when compared with other safflower genotypes.Item Comparison of Item Parameters and Model Fit from Item Response Theory Applications: A Monte Carlo Study(2015) Kogar, HakanThe purpose of this study is to identify and compare NIRT, PIRT and MIRT across different sample sizes, test length and correlation between dimensions in a two dimensional simple structures. Data sets in various conditions have been simulated. These conditions are sample size (100, 500, 1000 and 5000), test length (5, 15 and 25) and correlation between dimensions (0.00, 0.25 and 0.50). From each experimental design, within the frame of Monte Carlo study, the findings have been obtained through 20 replications. For the item parameters and model data fit for the items, standard errors and significance values have been calculated. Having analyzed the findings of the research, with the increase of sample sizes and test length, it is also found out that the model data fit for the test has increased as well. It can be stated that tests consisting of less items fit better to MIRT models. In all simulation designs, model data fit for the items are calculated with quite low errors in NIRT. When the chi-square, infit and outfit values obtained for PIRT have been analyzed, it has been revealed that along with the increase of sample sizes and test length, all three coefficients exhibit better model fit. In NIRT, the standard errors belonging to Hi and p parameters tend to decrease with the increase of sample sizes and test length. In PIRT, a parameters tend to decrease when the sample sizes and test length increase.Item Comparison of Teachers' Attitudes to Family Participation in Different Early Childhood Approaches(2021) Ozgen, Zeliha; Atay, MesudeThe purpose of this study is to examine the teachers' attitudes working in preschool education institutions that implement the practices of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) program. This study was carried out in descriptive research (survey) method. The study group was composed of 81 teachers working at Montessori, Reggio Emiliainspired and MoNE preschools in Kadikoy, Maltepe and Atasehir districts of Istanbul. "Attitude Scale for Family Participation Studies for Teachers" was used as a data collection tool. In the analysis of the data, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used. As a result of data analysis; the attitude scores of the teachers working in the Reggio Emilia-inspired preschools were higher than the Montessori-inspired and MoNE preschools. In this context, it was detected that the Reggio Emilia approach is determinative on the teachers' attitudes regarding the family participation practices in preshools included in the study. According to the findings of the research, it was concluded that family participation studies of different educational approaches should be considered and implemented as an integrated approach according to the needs in Turkey.Item Critical Thinking Disposition of Music Teachers(2017) Kilic, Ilgim; Yazici, Tarkan; Topalak, Sefika IzgiPurpose: This study aims to assess the critical thinking dispositions of music teacher candidates using variables such as age, gender, secondary school type, daily TV viewing frequency, parental attitudes, and frequency of book and newspaper reading. Research Methods: To obtain a general review of the research subject, the researchers developed a survey. The sample was 131 students in the Department Fine Arts, Faculty of Education in Fatih, Karadeniz Technical University, during the 2013-2014 education period. The researchers used the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI-T) to determine the study group's critical thinking disposition. Findings: The critical thinking disposition of the study group varied considerably based on book and newspaper reading frequency. Integrative orientations towards EFL learning were observed. Students' motivation had a greater influence on language learning. The overall mean score for students' self-efficacy was found to be at the moderate level (M = 3.88). Furthermore, female students' self-efficacy scores were significantly higher than those of the male students. Lastly, a positive correlation was found between students' motivational orientations and self-efficacy beliefs. Implications for Research and Practice: Critical-thinking-oriented courses and seminars should be provided for music teacher candidates to help develop their critical thinking capabilities. Learningteaching activities should be provided to create a teaching environment based on critical thinking. Various socio-cultural activities should be provided for teacher candidates to develop their critical thinking capabilities. (C) 2017 Ani Publishing Ltd. The article attempts to identify the challenges facing the two schools in this complex reality and the strategies developed by the two principals and their teaching staff to cope with academic, pedagogic and administrative functioning difficulties. Qualitative data collection and analysis were chosen for this investigation. Interpretation followed the four dimensions suggested by Horsford, Grosland and Gunn (2011) in their Framework for Culturally Relevant Leadership: political contexts, pedagogical approaches, personal journeys and professional duties. Findings indicate that although the schools cope with difficult circumstances in the field, the government's policies are naive and unclear. The principals are motivated by a pedagogy of compassion, containment and humanistic-universal commitment. Conflicting discourses are found among the staff who feel 'trapped' in this difficult reality. The principals employ a style that encourages synergistic collective commitment and social cohesion. Conclusions and recommendations are discussed.Item Cyprus Past, Present, and Future: The Dervis Zaim Trilogy(2015) Raw, LaurenceItem Detections on Ottoman Armenians Enlightened by German Documents (1915-1918)(2017) Kilic, SezenMost of the current available local and foreign studies conducted regarding the Armenians who lived in Ottoman lands have dealt with the 1915 Relocation, reflecting the Turkish or Armenian point of view known in this subject, and strived for proving the accuracy of either of them. However, few of them achieved to put forward a different perspective. In light of this, a number of observations and detections about Ottoman Armenians in Bundesarchiv documents between May 1915 and October 1918 will be dealt with through a far different standpoint. The detections include the suspicion of the Turkish towards the Armenians working as a translator in Ottoman lands and the diplomatic and military problems thereof; some economic reasons rooting the animosity between Turks and Armenians; the superior and weak points of Armenians in commerce and their differences from the non-Muslim merchants; measures taken against Armenians due to Enver Pasha's approach towards them; problems due to the suspicions over Armenian officers working in mail and telegraph services; a foreign missionary attempt directed to the release of the Armenians arrested for planning a bomb attack in Izmir and the political social and economic consequences of this attempt; and daily events such as an affair of an Armenian and French; episodes from while a Danish woman who lived in Ottoman lands took her Armenian adopted child back to her country. In the study, the obtained and less known observations and detections about Armenians will be evaluated while commented in light of the said archive documents.
