Item A Scale For Seventh And Eighth Grade Students' Attitudes Towards Skill-Based Mathematics Questions(Başkent Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi, 2024-08-10) Erhan, Gonul; Dogan, Oguzhan; Haser, CigdemThe aim of this study is to develop a theoretically sound, valid, and reliable scale to examine seventh and eighth grade students' attitudes towards so-called skill-based mathematics questions (SBMQ). The sample of the study was 820 seventh and eighth grade students at three different middle schools in Etimesgut District of Ankara Province. A draft item pool was crafted after a detailed literature review and the scale was finalized for the implementation after receiving expert opinions. This version of scale was administered shortly before the national examination which included skill-based questions in the 2022-2023 academic year. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods were used to examine the construct validity of the scale. The analysis resulted in 16 items in three factors (affective, cognitive, and motivational) which explained 46% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability scores were above .70 for each factor and whole scale. The results indicated that the Attitudes Towards SBMQ Scale developed for seventh and eighth grade students is valid and reliable.Item A Scale For Seventh And Eighth Grade Students' Attitudes Towards Skill-Based Mathematics Questions(Başkent Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi, 2024-08-10) Erhan, Gonul; Dogan, Oguzhan; Haser, CigdemThe aim of this study is to develop a theoretically sound, valid, and reliable scale to examine seventh and eighth grade students' attitudes towards so-called skill-based mathematics questions (SBMQ). Today's writers create modern narratives, which we can call literary fairy tales- though definitions may vary-, by utilizing the form and content characteristics of fairy tales and the possibilities they offer. In this text-immanent study, I examined Ahmet Omit's work Bir A & scedil;k Masal & imath; as an example of contemporary narratives, due to its inclusion of elements of fairy tales and mythology, within the framework of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth Theory, which he outlined in his work The Hero with a Thousand Faces and can be summarized under the headings of "Departure-Initiation-Return". In the article, I first provided brief information about fairy tales, traditional folk tales, and literary fairy tales, and then attempted to summarize Campbell's Monomyth Theory in connection with Jung's concept of "archetype". In the analysis section, I evaluated the content of the tale under the headings of "Departure", "Initiation", and "Return" respectively. As a result of my examination, I found that the enchanting narrative created by Ahmet Omit aligns with the main headings of Campbell's Monomyth Theory but does not fully meet some subheadings and shifts others to different stages of the cycle. In the modern tale I examined, I find it noteworthy that the cycle Campbell presented is not completed, and the heroes fail to achieve any subheading of the return stage. The author chose to make each of the heroes, who embarked on a journey in search of true love and completed the initial stages of the cycle, fail in the final stages for the same reason. The characters who have not managed to detach themselves from their egos cannot be expected to "become heroes." It would not be inaccurate to assert that the author has created anti-heroes, divergent from the conventional heroes found in traditional fairy tales. In this modern tale, the story of traditional fairy tale heroes who return home with the ultimate reward after maturing has been replaced by the story of heroes who, moving in the opposite direction, succumb to their ambitions and will never return home.Item AN APPLICATION ON DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF ORDER m(2020) Altintas, Osman; Kilic, Oznur OzkanIn this paper we introduce the classes T-n (p, lambda, A, B) and K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B) and derive distortion inequalities of the functions belonging to class K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B). Further we apply to the (n, delta) - neighborhoods of functios in the class K-n (p, lambda, mu, m, A, B).Item APPROXIMATION BY A GENERALIZED SZASZ TYPE OPERATOR FOR FUNCTIONS OF TWO VARIABLES(2014) Cetin, Nursel; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; Atakut, CigdemIn the present paper, we define a new Szasz-Mirakjan type operator in exponential weighted spaces for functions of two variables having exponential growth at infinity using a method given by Jakimovski-Leviatan. This operator is a generalization of two variables of an operator defined by A. Ciupa [1]. In this study, we investigate approximation properties and also estimate the rate of convergence for this new operator.Item Approximation By An Integral Type Apostol-Genocchi Operators(JOURNAL OF MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS, 2024-08-16) Dalmanoglu, OzgeThe goal of the current paper is to present an integral type FavardSzasz operators including Apostol-Genocchi poynomials. With the help of the moments, we investigate the order of convergence in terms of the first and the second order modulus of continuity and Peetres K- functional. We also examine the convergence in the weighted spaces of functions by means of weighted Korovkin type theorem.Item Approximation by Chlodowsky Type Q-Jakimovski-Leviatan Operators(2016) Dalmanoglu, Ozge; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; ABF-5851-2020This paper deals with the Chlodowsky type q-Jakimovski-Leviatan operators. We first establish approximation properties and rate of convergence results for these operators. Our main purpose is to give a theorem on the rate of convergence of the rth q-derivative of the operators.Item Approximation Properties of Baskakov-Balazs Type Operators for Functions of Two Variables(2015) Atakut, Cigdem; Buyukyazici, Ibrahim; Serenbay, Sevilay K.; ABF-5851-2020In this paper, we study Baskakov type positive operators in polynomial weighted spaces of functions of two variables. We obtain some well known operators by using our operators which are special cases of them. We give theorems on approximation, on the degrees of approximations of functions and the Vornovskaya type theorem for these operators. Finally, we present an open problem concerning the q analogue of these operators.Item Approximation Theorems for Kantorovich Type Favard-Szasz Operators Based on q-Integers(2017) Dalmanoglu, Ozge; Serenbay, Sevilay Kirci; ABF-5851-2020In this paper we introduce the q-analogue of Kantorovich generalization of Favard-Szasz type operators and investigate their approximation properties. We first give basic convergence results by using Korovkin's Theorem and then estimate the rate of convergence by using modulus of continuity. We also give a local approximation theorem and study weighted approximation properties of these new operators.Item Are the Photosynthetic Performance Indexes and the Drought Factor Index Satisfactory Selection Criterion for Stress?(2015) Cicek, Nuran; Arslan, Ozlem; Culha-Erdal, Sekure; Eyidogan, Fusun; Ekmekci, Yasemin; ACA-9644-2022This study was conducted to assess the drought stress and the recovery responses of twenty one chickpea cultivars (Cicer arietinum L.) grown in Turkey. 20-day-old seedlings were subjected to mild drought conditions for 7 days, recovery period of 3 days followed. Then a moderate stress period of 10 days was applied, followed by recovery period of 4 days. Finally, severe stress period of 13 days was applied, followed by recovery period of 5 days. Drought stress treatments were observed to have an adverse effect on photosynthetic efficiency, but also malondialdehyde, total chlorophyll (app. half of cultivars) and carotenoid contents of leaf tissue have increased when compared with their controls. 21 chickpea cultivars were classified into four groups; highly tolerant, tolerant, less tolerant and sensitive, according to the drought factor index (DFI), the values calculated by photosynthetic performance index (PItotal). Only four cultivars recovered from severe drought stress conditions. Aziziye and Diyar 95 cultivars may be suggested to be cultivated in drought-prone areas. In general, the present results indicate that: 1. PItotal and DFI are very satisfactory selection criterion for drought stress. 2. The recovery processes of plants exposed to environmental constraints should be investigated to make the right selection.Item ASSESSMENT OF A MULTINATIONAL ONLINE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON ONLINE TEACHING: REFLECTIONS OF CANDIDATE E-TUTORS(2017) Kalelioglu, Filiz; Adnan, Muge; Gulbahar, Yasemin; 0000-0002-7729-5674; AAF-8110-2019Teaching online requires different skills, roles and competencies for online instructors compared to teaching in traditional learning environments. Universities should offer ongoing support in various forms to help academic staff through their online journey. This paper provides insights into a multinational faculty development program for teaching online, elaborating on results of expectancy and satisfaction surveys. From a local program to a subproject within the Swiss National Science Foundation Project Scopes, e-Tutor aimed at expanding competencies in online lecturing and providing OER material for training colleagues. Designed in the form of a descriptive case study, this research was conducted with 34 attendees of e-Tutor. Data was collected using an e-learning readiness and expectancy questionnaire, and open-ended questions after the program to measure satisfaction. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey data and content analysis for open-ended data. Participants considered e-Tutor a well-planned and targeted program with good theoretical and practical balance. Duration of such courses, opportunities for adaptation to real-life situations, and localization of the content are areas to be explored further. For future studies, it would also be interesting to see whether participants can apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to create efficient online learning environments.Item Being a Young Speaker of the Gagauz Language in Post-Soviet Context(2023) Inan, Kayhan; Kirmizi, Gulin DagdevirenThe concept of identity assumes great importance in the context of endangered languages. In this study, the identity perceptions of Gagauz adolescents were investigated using Bucholtz and Hall's (2005) sociocultural linguistic approach. To this end, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with three adolescent Gagauz speakers who had distinctive profiles in terms of Gagauz identity. Bucholtz and Hall's indexicality principle, specifically the use of WE- and THEY- references, was taken into consideration in the analysis of interviews held with young Gagauz speakers. In the semistructured interviews, the participants responded to specific questions that probed self-identification, the relationship between the Gagauz language and ethnicity, the future of Gagauz people and Gagauz language, and perceived linguistic (in)security when speaking Gagauz and Russian languages, as well as language choice at school. The findings show that the participants have different profiles and use various indexical references and linguistic strategies regarding group membership. The influence of Russia and the Russian language on Gagauz identity is salient in social life, bureaucracy, and politics. As a result, the strong identification with ethnic identity and perception of Gagauz identity does not help maintain the Gagauz language in Gagauzia.Item Beware of Imitations: All about Eve (1950)(2016) Raw, LaurenceItem Beware of Imitations: All about Eve (1950)(2017) Raw, Laurence
