Item Empathy And Lgbti Perspectives Among University Nursing Students In Turkiye(ARCHIVES OF PSYCHIATRIC NURSING, 2024-12) Topal, Cansu Akdag; Ucgun, Tugce; Gurel, ReyyanObjective: The research aims to understand the factors influencing nursing students' attitudes towards the LGBTI community, given the importance of culturally competent and inclusive care in healthcare. Method: A descriptive and relationship-seeking design was used. The study was completed by 386 nursing students. Data were collected with "Personal Information Form, LGBTI Attitude Scale (LGBTI-AS) and Toronto Empathy Scale (TEQ)". Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify predictors of attitudes towards LGBTI individuals among nursing students. Results: The total mean score of the Awareness to LGBTI Attitude Scale was 2.47 +/- 1.0 (moderate attitudes). The findings revealed that female students and senior nursing students exhibited more positive attitudes, while those with friendships with LGBTI individuals and higher empathy levels showed greater acceptance and understanding towards the LGBTI community (p p < 0.001). The results showed that 22 % of the total variance in the LGBTI attitude could be explained in model 3 (F = 27.43, R2 variation = 0.224, p = 0.001). Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of integrating LGBTI-related content into nursing curricula and promoting empathy-building activities. These findings underscore the significance of empathy in shaping positive attitudes and emphasize the need for comprehensive educational strategies to promote inclusivity in healthcare.Item A Longitudinal Study on the Effect of Tailored Training and Counseling on the Professional Attitude of Nursing Students(2015) Karadag, Ayise; Hisar, Filiz; Baykara, Zehra Gocmen; Caliskan, Nurcan; Karabulut, Hatice; Ozturk, Deniz; 25999200; AAC-6784-2020The development of professional attitudes in nursing students is influenced by their learning experiences (knowledge, skills, and attitudes) and instructors' professional behaviors. Instructors can enhance students' professional attitude by organizing the training environment, being a role model, and providing counseling. This study was conducted as a tailoring intervention study over 4 years (2010-2013) examining 73 nursing students (34 intervention, 39 control) to determine the effect of training and counseling on nursing students' professional attitudes. Data were collected utilizing the Introductory Characteristics Form and the Instrument of Professional Attitude for Student Nurses. Intervention group students were provided training and counseling complementing their current education to develop their professional attitudes. Controls proceeded with their current education. Instrument for Professional Attitude for Student Nurses posttest scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of control group students. Furthermore, intervention group scores on all subscales other than "competence and continuous education" significantly increased after training. Controls showed no growth in professional attitudes, other than in "contribution to scientific knowledge." The training and counseling program had a positive influence on the professional attitudes of nursing students. Thus, providing tailored training and counseling associated to professionalism throughout the educational process at schools providing nursing training is recommended. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.Item The mediating effect of Covid-19 risk perception on the correlation between levels of mindfulness and preventive health behavior in nursing students(2022) Karadas, Canan; Topal, Cansu Akdag; Ozbay, Sevil cinar; Kanbay, Yalcin; Ay, Ayse; 36428076Objective: This study aimed to investigate nursing students' levels of mindfulness and its effect on developing preventive health behaviors, and to examine the mediating role of COVID-19 risk perception on this effect. Design and measures: This study used a descriptive and correlational study design. Results: The level of mindfulness, accompanied by COVID-19 risk perception caused a.104-unit increase in developing preventive health behavior. Conclusions: The findings revealed that the indirect effect of the level of mindfulness on developing preventive health behavior was at a significant level; therefore, it is concluded that COVID-19 risk perception mediates the correlation between level of mindfulness. Practice implications: The present study is important to investigate nursing students' levels of mindfulness and the effect of these on developing preventive health behaviors.
