A New Approach for Discriminating the Acoustic Signals: Largest Area Parameter (LAP)
(2018) Ankishan, Haydar; Inam, S. Cagdas
Feature extraction of sound signals is essential for the performance of applications such as pattern and voice recognition etc. In this study, a method based on a novel feature is proposed to separate pathological human voice signals from healthy ones as well as to separate subgroups of pathological voices from each other. The voices are examined in time-frequency domain. Their differences obtained from the results of the proposed method are investigated and the mechanism of the method is demonstrated using experimental cases. It is concluded that the method succeeds to discriminate the voices marked "healthy" and "pathological".

Esra (Elevator Simulation, Research & Analysis): An Open-Source Software Tool For Elevator Traffic Simulation, Research, And Analysis
(Başkent Üniversitesi Teknik Bilimler Meslek Yüksekokulu, 2024-04-05) Tartan, Emre Oner; Ciflikli, Cebrail
Today, although elevator companies typically have their own elevator simulation and analysis tools, these remain inaccessible to the public due to commercial concerns and rivalry in the sector. Consequently, due to the lack of modular open-source software tools, interest in the design and development of elevator systems in academia is quite limited, contrary to the vast potential of the field. This paper addresses this gap introducing an open-source software tool, the Elevator Simulator for Research and Analysis (ESRA), developed using the MATLAB programming language and an object-oriented approach. ESRA features built-in control methods, and visualization options with the capability to save and reuse traffic data, facilitating in-depth comparative analysis. Moreover, its modular architecture allows a design and development basis for further research in the field. The proposed software aims to enable developers to design, implement, analyse, and compare their control algorithms with other methods.

Value of cardiopulmonary exercise testing in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease
(2019) Akinci Ozyurek, Berna; Savas Bozbas, Serife; Aydinalp, Alp; Bozbas, Huseyin; Ulubay, Gaye; 31414640
Introduction: Respiratory and cardiac functions in association with skeletal and neurophysiologic systems can be evaluated with cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Compared to treadmill exercise test, CPET provides more comprehensive data about the hemodynamic response to exercise. Materials and Methods: We aimed to evaluate the relationship with CPET findings and coronary lesions identified on angiography in patients with angina pectoris who underwent teradmill exercise, CPET and coronary angiography (CAG). By this way we sought to examine the CPET parameters that might be predictive for coronary artery disease (CAD) before diagnostic exercise test results and ischemia symptoms develop. Thirty patients in whom CAG was planned because of symptoms and exercise test results were enrolled in the study. Oxygen consumption (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), minute ventilation (VE), maximum work rate (WR), Delta VO2/Delta WR and O-2 pulse (VO2/HR) values were calculated. Significant CAD was defined as >= 50% narrowing in at least one of the coronary arteries. Results: The mean age was 60.4 +/- 8.9 years ve 21 (65.6%) of subjects were male. On CAG, CAD was detected in 19 (59.4%) patients. Maximum heart rate, heart rate reserve (HRR), VE/VCO2 measured at anaerobic threshold AT) and VO2 (mL/kg/min) were significantly differed in patients with CAD than those without (p= 0.031; p= 0.041; p= 0.028; p= 0.03 respectively). Peak VO2, VO2/WR and O-2 pulse values were higher in patients with normal angiographic results than those with CAD but the difference did not reach to statistical significance. Conclusion: The findings of our study indicate that among CPET parameters AT VE/VCO2, ATVO(2) (mL/kg/dk) and HRR can have predictive value in the diagnosis of CAD. We think that these parameters might be used in the evaluation of patients with angina and dyspnea suspected of CAD. In conclusion parameters obtained during the test that are not influenced by patient's effort might increase the value of CPET in the diagnosis CAD.

FREQUENCY OF POLYPHARMACY AND RISK FACTORS IN THE ELDERLYIN BURDUR
    (2018) Durukan, Elif; Onal, Ozgur
Introduction: Polypharmacy is common among the elderly. This study aimed to determine the frequency of polypharmacy and the risk factors in the elderly. Materials and Method: This cross-sectional study will be analysed in three stages (polypharmacy, drug characteristics and drug interaction). Herein, the first stage (polypharmacy) was conducted at Burdur city centre and the connected villages. A total of 400 of 11,360 subjects aged >= 65 years who were registered with family physicians in Burdur city centre were selected using a systematic sampling method. A questionnaire of 30 questions about socio-demographic variables and rational drug use was distributed among the subjects. Subsequently, the subjects were asked to bring their own drugs from home that they were actively using or not currently using, and their drug-using behaviour was analysed via specific questions. Results: The average number of different drugs possessed by the subjects at home was approximately 6 (5.95 +/- 4.30). A total of 64.9% of the drugs were used regularly, 21.3% were used occasionally and 13.8% were previously used but not currently used. The median number +/- standard deviation of the drugs that were used regularly, used occasionally and previously used but not currently used was 3.86 +/- 3.36, 1.27 +/- 1.75 and 0.82 +/- 1.82, respectively. According to the results of multivariate analysis, the presence of diabetes, hypertension, respiratory system or cardiovascular (except hypertension) diseases, visual impairment or hearing disorders significantly increased the total drug use (p<0.05). Conclusion: Chronic diseases and living in the city centre are the main risk factors leading to polypharmacy. Therefore, interventions must be undertaken by monitoring and reducing chronic diseases and providing training on rational drug use in the provincial centres.

Evaluation of Hemodialysis Patients in Terms of Activities of Daily Living, Disability, Depression and Comorbidity
(2017) Turgay, Gulay; Tutal, Emre; Sezer, Siren
OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to evaluate the hemodialysis patients in terms of activities of daily living (ADLs), disability, depression and comorbidity. MATERIAL and METHODS: The population of this cross-sectional study included 220 patients undergoing treatment at a dialysis center between June-August 2016. The study sample however was comprised of 144 patients who were 50 years old and above, had been undergoing hemodialysis treatment for at least six months and who agreed to participate in the research. The data was collected using the Patient Identification Form, the Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale, Lawton and Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale, Brief Disability Questionnaire, Charlson Comorbidity Score and Beck Depression Inventory. RESULTS: The patients were divided into two groups: the 50-64 years age group and the 65-plus age group. The patients in the first group were found to have an Activities of Daily Living Scale score of 17.28 +/- 1.45, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale score of 19.98 +/- 3.02, and a Brief Disability Questionnaire score of 7.42 +/- 3.99 whereas the patients in the second group were found to have score of 15.73 +/- 2.53, 17.29 +/- 3.43 and 10.7 +/- 4.18 respectively. CONCLUSION: Hemodialysis and age progression leads to dependency of patients at varying levels while they maintain their activities of daily living.

Breast Involvement in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
    (2015) Pourbagher, Aysin
Extra-medullary infiltration of breast by acute lymphoblastic leukemia is very rare. Mammography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging findings of leukemic breast involvement have been previously reported in the literature. However; ultrasound elastography findings of leukemic breast involvement have not been reported yet. Herein, we report ultrasound elastography and magnetic resonance imaging findings of a case with bilateral breast infiltration by T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
