Item 3D evaluation of the effect of disinfectants on dimensional accuracy and stability of two elastomeric impression materials(2018) Cinar, Duygu; Soganci, Gokce; Caglar, Alper; Yagiz, Ayberk; 29848853The aim of this study was to determine and compare the dimensional changes of polyether and vinyl polyether siloxane impression materials under immersion disinfection with two different disinfectants in three time periods. Impressions were obtained from an edentulous master model. Sodium hypochlorite (5.25%) and glutaraldehyde (2%) were used for disinfection and measurements were done 30 min later after making impression before disinfection, after required disinfection period (10 min), and after 24 h storage at room temperature. Impressions were scanned using 3D scanner with 10 microns accuracy and 3D software was used to evaluate the dimensional changes with superimpositioning. Positive and negative deviations were calculated and compared with master model. There was no significant difference between two elastomeric impression materials (p>0.05). It was concluded that dimensional accuracy and stability of two impression materials were excellent and similar.Item Ability to detect endodontic complications using three different cone beam computed tomography units with and without artefact reduction modes: an ex vivo study(2019) Koç, C.; Kamburoglu, K.; Sönmez, G.; Yilmaz, F.; Gulen, O.; Karahan, S.; 30506961Aim To assess observer performance in detecting endodontic complications using three different cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) units with and without the application of artefact reduction modes. Methodology The study involved 40 freshly extracted human mandibular teeth (n = 10 per group) and divided randomly into four endodontic complication groups. Group 1) Instrument fracture; Group 2) Strip perforation; Group 3) Canal underfilling; and Group 4) Canal overfilling. Images of each tooth were obtained using three different CBCT units offering artefact reduction algorithms: the ProMax 3D Max, the Pax Flex 3D and the Dentri S. Four observers evaluated the images for the presence/absence of the four simulated endodontic complications. Weighted kappa coefficients and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated to reveal the intra- and inter-observer agreement for each imaging mode, respectively. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the observers' performance. DeLong tests were used to compare the results for each image mode and observer using a significance level of alpha = 0.05. Results In each of the four simulated endodontic complication groups, no significant differences were observed with and without application of artefact reduction for any of the three CBCT units tested. Only two significant differences were detected, and both were between the ProMax 3D Max at low mode AR and ProMax 3D Max without AR: observer 2 in group 1 (P = 0.0001) and observer 4 in group 4 (P = 0.0256). This case report presents a child with GSD type IIIa who underwent orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) with her mother as a donor. A multidisciplinary approach should be provided to optimise the preoperative period and minimise complications in these patients.Item Analysis of Probiotic Bacteria Genomes: Comparison of CRISPR/Cas Systems and Spacer Acquisition Diversity(2021) Ilikkan, Ozge Kahraman; 0000-0001-5843-6868; 35068602; Q-9641-2019Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated (Cas) genes constitute an adaptive (acquired) defense system of bacteria and archaea. Here 72 probiotic bacteria genomes were investigated in terms of the presence of CRISPR/Cas systems and phage/plasmid invaders through spacer analysis. 49 CRISPR/Cas systems were detected within probiotic strains, namely,17 type II-A, 10 type I-C, 8 type I-E, 5 Type I-U (I-G), 4 type III-A, 2 type I-B, 1 type I-A, 1 type IV-B, and 1 type II-C. The predicted target of spacers was determined in 25 strains and consequently, three different spacer and target patterns were revealed. The diversity of CRISPR spacers provides insight and understanding to determine strain-specific invaders of probiotic bacteria as well as their relationships between strains. CRISPR systems were clarified in many studies for genomic characterization. However, recently, endogenous genome editing with CRISPR has provided an approach for various genome editing projects. Thus, in the future, producing strain-specific phage-resistant starter cultures or probiotics by endogenous genome editing methods according to phage/plasmid survey can be utilized for industrial and pharmaceutical applications. Therefore, this study intended a comprehensive investigation of CRISPR systems of probiotic bacteria.Item Analysis of the IR-Raman Modes and the Heat Capacity Near the alpha-Inc-beta Transitions in Quartz(2021) Yurtseven, H.; Gunay, E.; Karacali, H.; Ates, S.This study gives our analysis for the temperature dependence of the infrared frequency and the integrated intensity of the 695 cm(-1) mode near the alpha-beta transition at 847.5 K and the temperature dependence of the Raman scattering cross section of the 355 cm(-1) mode near the beta-INC (incommensurate) transition which occurs within a small temperature (similar to 1.3 K) interval in relation to the order parameter in quartz. Both analyses are performed according to a power-law formula for the order parameter Q with the critical index beta using the experimental data from the literature. We also analyze the temperature dependence of the heat capacity C p according to the renormalization-group expression including first-order corrections to scaling term close to the alpha-INC-beta transitions in quartz by using the literature data. From our analyses, values of the critical exponent beta for the frequency and the integrated intensity of the 695 cm(-1) infrared mode and for the Raman scattering cross section of the 355 cm(-1) mode as a measure of the order parameter, are extracted. From the analysis of C p , the values of the critical exponent alpha are also extracted. Additionally, by means of scaling relations the critical exponent gamma of the isothermal compressibility kappa T and the renormalized components ( beta R , alpha R and gamma R ) are predicted for the alpha-INC-beta transitions in quartz. Our analyses given here indicate that weakly first-order transition occurs from the alpha phase to the incommensurate (INC) phase, which changes to the nearly second-order transition to the beta phase with increasing temperature in quartz, as also observed experimentally.Item Analysis of the treatment costs of HIV/AIDS in Turkey(2016) Malhan, Simtem; Zengin, Tuba Elbir; Yenilmez, Fatma Betul; Dalgic, Canan; Cerci, Pamir; Oksuz, Ergun; Unal, Serhat; 0000-0002-5723-5965; K-8238-2012OBJECTIVE: Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), is a major global health problem. Patients with HIV can live normal lives with today's new treatment options. As the treatment is generally successful, the life expectancy of patients infected with HIV is rising. As a result, the economic burden of HIV treatment on health systems is set to increase. According to the Ministry of Health, there were more than 6000 HIV-positive patients in Turkey in 2013. The aim of this study was to determine the direct costs of HIV treatment in Turkey. METHOD: A retrospective data analysis was performed from the reimbursement agency perspective. Data for 252 patients at a university hospital in Ankara from 2001 to 2012 were used for the analysis. The average costs of treatment per HIV patient and the average costs per HIV patient, depending on the state of the patient's health, were calculated. The latter was determined according to the number of CD4 cells/ml, as defined by the CDC's classification system for HIV infection. The cost of treatment was calculated based on published reimbursement prices in 2013, per patient per year. RESULTS: The CD4 values of 25.3%, 29%, and 45.7% of the 252 patients were < 100 cells/mm(3), 100-300 cells/mm(3), and > 300 cells/mm(3), respectively. The treatment costs per patient per year for 2013 for those with CD4 values of < 100 cells/ mm(3), 100-300 cells/mm(3), and > 300+ cells/mm(3) were $ 5,637.04, $ 2,211.54, and $ 2,182.35, respectively. The weighted average of the treatment cost per patient was $ 3,344.64 for 2013. CONCLUSION: This analysis is unique to Turkey and calculates the cost only of HIV treatment in Turkey. Lower CD4 values are associated with higher treatment costs. Appropriate HIV treatment is crucial for controlling CD4 values and lowering the treatment costs of HIV patients. These findings need to be considered by policy makers who may need to focus on HIV.Item Antecedents of Nurse Burnout During a Pandemic: Managerial Way Out(2022) Basar, Ufuk; Dogan, Aysun; Ertugrul, BekirThe aim of this research is to uncover whether nurses' fear of contracting Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in stress-related presenteeism and burnout, and whether perceived organisational support is effective in dealing with both nurses' fear of contracting COVID-19 and its undesired consequences. For this purpose, a cross-sectional and descriptive research has been conducted. The data are collected from 513 nurses working in Ankara, Turkey, through a questionnaire survey. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance test and partial least squares structural equation modelling technique are employed to analyse the data. Findings indicate that nurses fear infection and experience stress-related presenteeism and burnout considerably. However, they perceive slightly inadequate level of organisational support. Fear of infection has resulted in stress-related presenteeism and burnout. Stress-related presenteeism has mediated the relationship between fear of infection and burnout. Perceived organisational support has negatively related to fear of infection and its negative consequences. In this research, to our knowledge, for the first time, the burnout, stress-related presenteeism, fear of infection and perceived organisational support levels of nurses are compared according to the pandemic-related criteria. Besides, the mediating role of nurses' stress-related presenteeism between their fear of contracting COVID-19 and burnout is discovered.Item Association between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Acute Pancreatitis(2014) Karabulut, Keziban Ucar; Narci, Huseyin; Ucar, Yildiz; Uyar, Mehmet; 25428195Background: We aimed to determine whether there are any alterations in red blood cell width in patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Material/Methods: This was a retrospective study of records of patients treated in emergency units and diagnosed with acute pancreatitis between January 2011 and April 2013. Records were investigated regarding patient age, sex, and causes of acute pancreatitis. Red blood cell width and amylase values obtained from the patients during diagnosis and after a full recovery from acute pancreatitis were added to the records. Results: Recorded red blood cell width and amylase values of 104 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis were statistically compared according to the time of sample collection. Samples were collected in the post-diagnostic period and after full recovery. Values of red blood cell width and amylase were found to be significantly higher in samples collected during hospital admission in comparison to those obtained from patients after fully recovering from acute pancreatitis (p<0.05). Conclusions: An increase in red blood cell width value is a marker of acute pancreatitis; therefore, we suggest that red blood cell width can be used as a tool for the early diagnosis and assessment of disease progression.Item Bibliometric Analysis of Articles Published in Cukurova Medical Journal Between 2011 and 2022(2023) Polat, Sema; Tunc, Mahmut; Ozsahin, Esin; Tamam, Lut; Goker, Pinar; 0000-0003-1373-4700Purpose: This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of the abstracts and keywords in articles published in the Cukurova Medical Journal from 2011 to 2022. Materials and Methods: We compiled and analyzed all articles published in the Cukurova Medical Journal between 2011 and 2022, totaling 1734 articles, using VOSviewer software (version 1.6.19). This analysis focused on the terms in the abstracts and the keywords of these articles. Results: The study identified 27,409 unique terms and 4,040 unique keywords in the abstracts of the 1734 articles. The most common terms were 'surgery' (333 occurrences), 'pain' (263), 'infection' (201), 'measurement' (192), 'rat' (185), 'tumor' (177), 'covid' (157), 'pregnancy' (148), 'questionnaire' (144), and 'drug' (142). The top keywords were 'children' (43 occurrences), 'quality of life' (37), 'covid-19' (34), 'nursing' (32), 'pregnancy' (28), 'depression' (27), 'mortality' (26), 'anxiety' (24), 'child' (22), and 'obesity' (17). Conclusion: This is the first bibliometric analysis of keywords and terms used in the Cukurova Medical Journal, offering insights into the evolving topics of interest in the journal's publications. It also provides valuable information for researchers looking to submit articles to the journal, highlighting prevalent themes and content areas.Item Blood pressure prediction from speech recordings(2020) Ankishan, HaydarThe aim of this study is to extract new features to show the relationship between speech recordings and blood pressure (BP). For this purpose, a database consisting of / a / vowels with different BP values under the same room and environment conditions is presented to the literature. Convolutional Neural Networks- Regression (CNN-R), Support Vector Machines- Regression (SVMs-R) and Multi Linear Regression (MLR) are used in this study to predict BP with extracted features. From the experiments, the highest accuracy rates of BP prediction from / a / vowel have been obtained based on Systolic BP values with CNNR. In the study, 89.43 % for MLR, 92.15 % for SVM-R and 93.65 % for CNN-R are obtained when ReliefF has been used. When the root mean square errors (RMSE) are considered, the lowest error value is obtained with CNN-R as RMSE = 0.2355. In conclusion, it can be observed that the proposed feature vector (FVx) shows a relationship between BP and the human voices, and in this direction, it can be used as an FVx in a system that will be developed in order to follow the tension of individuals. The most frequently seen symptoms are a non-productive cough and hemoptysis. Occasionally, broncholytic expectoration can be seen, which is known as lithoptysis. As this is not a common finding, a case diagnosed with lithoptysis is presented here.Item Calculation of the damping constant and the relaxation time of the LA mode in the incommensurate phase of quartz(2021) Ates, S.; Yurtseven, H.The damping constant (linewidth) of the LA mode is calculated as a function of temperature for the incommensurate (INC) phase of quartz by using the models of the pseudospin-phonon (PS) coupled and the energy fluctuation (EF). For this calculation, the observed linewidth (Gamma(LA)) data are used at P = 0 and 80.5MPa from the literature. Close to the incommensurate phase between the alpha and beta phases of quartz, the observed Gamma(LA) and the frequency shifts (Delta v(LA) ) are also analyzed by the power-law formula for both pressures (P = 0 and 80.5MPa). By using the Gamma(LA) and Delta v(LA), the inverse relaxation time (tau(-1)(LA)) is predicted as a function of temperature (P = 0 and 80.5MPa) in the incommensurate phase of quartz and the values of the activation energy (E-a) are deduced. Our calculated Gamma(LA) from both models (PS and EF) explain adequately the observed behavior of the linewidth of the LA mode in the incommensurate phase of quartz. Also, our predicted tau(-1)(LA) can be compared with the measurements in the INC phase of this molecular crystal.Item Calibration transfer in temperature modulated gas sensor arrays(2016) Fernandez, L.; Güney, S.; Gutierrez-Galvez, A.; Marco, S.Shifts in working temperature are an important issue that prevents the successful transfer of calibration models from one chemical instrument to another. This effect is of special relevance when working with gas sensor arrays modulated in temperature. In this paper, we study the use of multivariate techniques to transfer the calibration model from a temperature modulated gas sensor array to another when a global change of temperature occurs. To do so, we built 12 identical master sensor arrays composed of three different types of commercial Figaro sensors and acquired a dataset of sensor responses to three pure substances (ethanol, acetone and butanone) dosed at 7 concentrations. The master arrays are then shifted in temperature (from -50 to 50 degrees C, Delta T = 10 degrees C) and considered as slave arrays. Data correction is performed for an increasing number of transfer samples with 4 different calibration transfer techniques: Direct Standardization, Piece-wise Direct Standardization, Orthogonal Signal Correction and Generalized Least Squares Weighting. In order to evaluate the performance of the calibration transfer, we compare the Root Mean Square Error of Prediction (RMSEP) of master and slave arrays, for each instrument correction. Best results are obtained from Piece-wise Direct standardization, which exhibits the lower RMSEP values after correction for the smaller number of transfer samples. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. They have mostly androgenetic monospermic genomes with all the chromosomes originating from a haploid sperm and no maternal chromosomes. Androgenetic complete hydatidiform moles were described in 1977, but how they occur has remained an open question. We identified bi-allelic deleterious mutations in MEI1, TOP6BL/C11orf80, and REC114, with roles in meiotic double-strand breaks formation in women with recurrent androgenetic complete hydatidiform moles. We investigated the occurrence of androgenesis in Mei1-deficient female mice and discovered that 8% of their oocytes lose all their chromosomes by extruding them with the spindles into the first polar body. We demonstrate that Mei1−/− oocytes are capable of fertilization and 5% produce androgenetic zygotes. Thus, we uncover a meiotic abnormality in mammals and a mechanism for the genesis of androgenetic zygotes that is the extrusion of all maternal chromosomes and their spindles into the first polar body. © 2018 American Society of Human GeneticsItem The change of neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio in migraine attacks: A case-controlled study(2016) Karabalulut, Keziban Ucar; Egercioglu, Tomris Ugur; Uyar, Mehmet; Ucar, Yildiz; 0000-0001-9188-0266; 27551404; AAJ-5618-2021Objective: As commonly seen symptoms, headaches are among the most frequently encountered health challenges in emergency rooms by healthcare professionals. Among one of the most commonly seen and primary headaches is migraine. Migraines are mostly accompanied by functional deficits. Aims: To observe the changes of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio occurring during migraine attacks. Method: This is a retrospective study where hospital records of patients previously diagnosed with migraine and admitted to the emergency with the complaints of attacks between May 2014 and January 2015 were investigated. All patients in the study were evaluated as to age, gender and complete blood count. Additionally, a healthy control group was formed with individuals with no disorders. By also evaluating the same features in the controls, the values found in the patients and controls alike were compared. Results: The values of white blood cell, lymphocyte, neutrophil, hemoglobin, thrombocyte and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio determined in the patient group (n = 92) were statistically compared with those of the controls (n = 67). Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio during the attacks was found higher in the patients, compared to the controls. Conclusion: Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio is a sign of inflammation, and we consider that this ratio will also increase during migraine attacks, as with other inflammatory and acute processes. Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of IJS Publishing Group Ltd.Item Classification of acoustic signals with new feature: Fibonacci space (FSp)(2019) Ankishan, Haydar; 0000-0002-6240-2545; AAH-4421-2019In this study, a new feature and feature space (FSp) are introduced by using the approach of Fibonacci series formation. The results are presented as two experimental studies. The nine groups of acoustic signals and pathological human voices are investigated in the first and second experiments, respectively. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Multi-Class Support Vector Machines (M-SVMs) are used to figure out the effect of the proposed feature and its FSp on the classification accuracy. It is observed that the proposed feature and its formed space yield significant results for the discrimination of those signals. Experimental studies show that the classification accuracy of test data is increased by 5.3% when the proposed feature is used with CNN and M-SVMs. In addition, each acoustic group is significantly discriminated in both experimental studies. It is concluded that the proposed feature and its space can be used as a temporal feature for different purposes such as automatic speech recognition, pattern recognition, and emotional voice discrimination etc. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.Item Co-Culture of Rat Luteal Cells with Islet Cells Enhances Islet Viability and Revascularization(2018) Boyuk, Gulbahar; Yigit, A. Arzu; Aydogan, Ilkay; 0000-0001-5837-6877; 30187177; AAD-1857-2020; C-2636-2017Islet cell transplantation is a major treatment strategy for type I diabetes, and has proven to be effective for maintaining glucose homeostasis. However, this treatment requires an extended period of immunosuppression to prevent rejection and recurrent transplantation to maintain function. Thus, to enhance the properties of transplanted islet cells, we examined the effect of the co-culture of luteal cells, which secrete progesterone, on islet cell viability, functionality, and revascularization. It was found that islet viability and functionality were higher in the co-cultured group than in single cultures of islets at 48 and 96 h, in parallel with increased progesterone and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) secretion from luteal cells. In the co-culture groups, VEGF levels at 48 and 96 h and CD31 levels at 48 h were significantly higher than those in the islet groups (p < 0.001 and p < 0.05, respectively), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) levels were increased at 96 h (p < 0.001). Thus, co-culture with luteal cells may increase islet vascularity by enhancing VEGF and bFGF levels for up to 96 h, which could help to markedly increase the pre-transplantation time to allow for effective immunosuppression therapy. This method may also promote islet cell viability and functionality. Progesterone and angiogenic factors secreted from luteal cells may be responsible for these positive effects.
