Abstract
Organ nakli konusunda ileri olduğu kabul edilen ülkelerde bile organ nakli aktivitesi istenen düzeyde değildir.
Ülkeler arasında ortalama bekleme süreleri farklılıklar
gösterir. Bekleme sürelerindeki farklılıklar organ nakli koordinasyon sisteminin başarısı ile ilgilidir. Bu sistemin
başarılı işlemesi ancak profesyonel koordinatörlerin görev
yaptığı organ nakil merkezlerinin varlığı ve merkezi
yönetimin tam desteği ile sağlanabilir. Kadavra donör
olmadan istenen düzeyde bir organ naklinden bahsedilemez. Türkiye’de organ nakil koordinatörünün sorunlarını özetlemek gerekirse 9 ana başlık altında toplayabiliriz;Tıp disiplini olarak organ nakil koordinatörlüğü;
Eğitim, Serifika, Kadro, Donanım, Kişisel harcamalar,
Dernek, Yönetim desteği, Motivasyon‘dur. Mesleki
Importance of Transplant Coordinators in Turkey
Shortage of transplants is a major problem for cadaveric
organ transplantation worldwide. The gap between organ
demand and supply continues to grow, and there is no
quick or universal solution to this problem. In Turkish
transplant teams, the role of the "transplant coordinator"
is to procure transplant organs and tissues. Since 1975,
our country has educated many skilled physicians and
surgeons, but our transplantation activities have not
reached the levels that have been achieved in Europe.
However, in the 5 years since the new transplant coordinator position was established in Turkey, these individuals have had a significant positive impact on organ and
tissue transplant activities.
Transplant coordinators play a critical role in our
attempts to address the crippling problem of organ shortage in Turkey, and eight main criteria must be met in
order for a person to be successful in this vital role. In
essence, transplant coordination can be considered a special area of medicine. Each candidate must be educated by
a team of trainers that certifies candidates who successfully complete the training. The position of the coordinator is important because the individual must feel secure
in their job, and thus not be inclined to move to another
area of the hospital or to another hospital at any time. The
person must also be provided with the necessary equipment, such as a mobile telephone and office machines, and
with financial support for traveling and communication.
Further, administrative support is key, as the individual
must have opportunities to explain the goals of transplant coordination to other health workers. Finally, the
person must be highly motivated, as transplant coordinators work longer hours than most other health care staff
but earn the same or a lower salary. Establishing more
transplant coordinator positions and providing better
support for these workers will help ease the problem of
organ shortage in Turkey significantly.
