Item The relationship between malnutrition, inflammation and cannulation pain in hemodialysis patients(2018) Kal, Ö.Malnutrition-inflammation and pain are the most important factors affecting quality of life of end-stage renal failure patients. In this study we looked at the relationship between malnutrition-inflammation and pain perception in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Among patients with chronic renal failure incompliance to treatment, and their diseases is often present. We think that in these patients we can improve treatment performance and quality of life by increasing patient compliance. In 44 hemodialysis patients, we found a positive correlation; between perception of pain and malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) (p<0.001, r=0.768), C Reactive Protein (CRP) and MIS (p<0.05, r=0.357), CRP and pain (p<0.01, r=0.423), and a negative correlation between pain and albumin (p<0.01, r=-0.47). In conclusion, we have shown that inflammation and malnutrition are related to each other in HD patients in accordance with previous studies. Besides, we have demonstrated that pain perception in these patients is greater than in HD patients without inflammation and malnutrition. We hope that treatment of malnutrition and inflammation will decrease the compliance problems, mortality rates, and increase pain thresholds and quality of life in HD patients. © 2018, Logos Medical Publishing.
