    Comparison between body composition parameters and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy by using pre-treatment PET CT in locally advanced breast cancer

    Purpose: To compare the adipose and muscle tissue areas in patients who responded differently to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: One hundred and eighty six patients diagnosed with breast cancer who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy between January 2015- October 2019 and were operated after the treatment were retrospectively included in the study. Pathological results were divided into five groups using the Miller-Payne grading systems. Grade 1 indicating no significant reduction in malignant cells; Grade 2: a minor loss of malignant cells (<= 30 %); Grade 3: reduction in malignant cells between 30 % and 90 %; Grade 4: disappearance of malignant cells >90 %; Grade 5: no malignant cells identifiable. Pre-treatment PET CT scans were evaluated, and calculation of body composition parameters were performed on a single axial section passing through the L3 vertebrae. Spearman's correlation test was used to analyze the correlation between SAT, VAT, MT parameters and pathological responses. Results: There was no strong correlation between the 5 groups separated according to neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment response and tissue distributions. However, that there was a very low correlation found between superficial adipose tissue and pathological response (r=, 156). Conclusion: In conclusion, our results have provided a very low correlation between SAT and more than 30 % response. More research is required to evaluate the role of the body fat and muscle parameters in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in larger patient populations.

    Sex differences in adult craniofacial parameters

    To compare normal male and female craniofacial parameters in adults and evaluate associations of sex and intercochlear distance with other craniofacial parameters. In 60 normal adults (30 men and 30 women) who had no otitis media, craniofacial parameters were measured retrospectively on two-dimensional reformatted computed tomography scans. Compared with women, men had significantly greater mean osseous auditory tube length, cartilaginous auditory tube length, mastoid length, intercochlear distance, sella to posterior nasal spine distance, sella to basion distance, and nasopharynx sagittal area. The intercochlear distance was significantly correlated with mastoid depth, midpoint of the pharyngeal opening distance, sella to nasion distance, and nasopharynx sagittal area and inversely with angle of the auditory tube. Most men and women had Korner septum present, and mean thickness of Korner septum was significantly greater in men than women. Some craniofacial parameters, especially vertical parameters, differ with sex. These differences begin in childhood and continue in adulthood. Sex must be considered when planning a craniofacial morphologic study, and results of a craniofacial morphologic study should be evaluated with caution when there is no sex matching of the patient and control groups.

    Comparison of Dentofacial and Periodontal Effects of Rapid and Semi-rapid Maxillary Expansion

    Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the skeletal, dentoalveolar and periodontal effects that occurred after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and semirapid maxillary expansion (SRME) with an acrylic splint bonded expansion appliance and also to compare the degree of root resorption in the supporting teeth during expansion. Materials and Methods: The sample of the study included 19 patients having maxillary constriction requiring bilateral upper premolar extraction. The semi-rapid group consisted of 10 patients and the rapid group consisted of 9 patients. Lateral and posteroanterior (PA) cephalometric radiographs were taken at the beginning of the treatment, at the end of expansion and after 3 months of retention period. Eleven patients underwent low-dose computed tomography (CT) at the beginning of treatment and at the end of retention period, after giving informed consent. The evaluation of root resorption was made using a scanning electron microscope from the extracted teeth. Results: Both lateral and PA radiographs showed similar changes between the groups. Posterior nasal cavity width, palatal maxillary width, the distance between palatinal roots and the distance between incisor roots showed significant increase in the CT measurements. Buccal bone thickness decreased and palatal bone thickness increased in all molar and premolar teeth examined. Root resorption was seen in both groups, but no significant differences were observed between the groups. Conclusion: Some differences were seen in short-time effects between SRME and RME but these differences were temporary and disappeared at the end of the retention period. The qualitative evaluation of the roots showed that the location and degree of the root resorption were similar between the groups.

    Restrictive cardiomyopathies (RCMs) are a diverse group of myocardial diseases with a wide range of aetiologies, including familial, genetic and acquired diseases and ranging from very rare to relatively frequent cardiac disorders. In all these diseases, imaging techniques play a central role. Advanced imaging techniques provide important novel data on the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of RCMs. This EACVI consensus document provides comprehensive information for the appropriateness of all non-invasive imaging techniques for the diagnosis, prognostic evaluation, and management of patients with RCM.

    Liver Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumor with an Unusual Location: Diagnostic Characteristics with Multidetector Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Primary perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) of the liver is a very rare tumor that originates from mesenchyma. Gastrointestinal tract with perivascular distribution is the most common anatomic sites of these tumors. Only few cases of hepatic PEComa have been described so far. Malignant PEComas exhibit aggressive behavior with poor prognosis, making early diagnosis crucial. Hereby, we report a 79-year-old female with unusually located mass in the liver. A partial curative hepatectomy has been done, and PEComa was diagnosed histopathologically. No evidence of recurrence was observed during the 6-month follow-up.

    Osseous outgrowth on the buccal maxilla associated with piezosurgery-assisted en-masse retraction: A case series

    Piezoelectric surgery is a novel surgical approach used in orthodontic treatment for rapid tooth movement. This paper presents a case series wherein osseous outgrowths were observed in response to piezosurgery-assisted en-masse retraction. Sixteen patients requiring upper premolar extractions were treated with miniscrew-supported en-masse retraction and received minimally invasive decortication via piezosurgery. Computed tomography (CT) of the maxillary anterior region was performed to investigate the nature of the outgrowths. In 8 of the 16 patients, hemispheric or disc-shaped osseous outgrowths were observed on the sites where piezosurgery was performed during retraction. CT images revealed that these outgrowths were alveolar bone. This case series presents a previously unreported osseous response to piezosurgery-assisted tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. The response is mostly transient and is observed in 50% of the treated patients, suggesting a bone turnover that can be assessed clinically and radiographically.
