Item Development of a multi-criteria decision-making model for comparing the performance of Turkish commercial banks(2020) Ic, Yusuf Tansel; Celik, Beril; Kavak, Sevcan; Baki, Busra; 0000-0001-9274-7467Purpose In this study, financial performance evaluation model is developed for banks aims to measure and compare the performances of banks based on their financial ratios. Design/methodology/approach Regression-AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process)-VIKOR (Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) integrated methodology is used. First, a literature review is done to find various bank performance measurement models with their financial metrics being compared. Then, pair-wise comparison matrices are used to find the relative weights of criteria (financial ratios) and finally VIKOR method is used to rank the banks. Findings It is believed that an AHP-based VIKOR framework helps to take up the explicit account of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methodologies in decision making and for selecting the best bank in the Turkish economy. Research limitations/implications In this paper, only selected financial ratios are used and analyzed for the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method. Originality/value The systematic solution procedure of performance evaluating the banks helps the decision-makers to carry out performance evaluation studies for improving economic and managerial performance. This comparative study and analysis of bank performance using the regression-AHP-VIKOR combined model is presented for the first time. The authors have not become aware of any such studies in their literature review. This paper is an original framework of the application of the regression-AHP-VIKOR on the various financial performance metrics.Item Stochastic KEMIRA-M Approach with Consistent Weightings(2019) Toktas, Pelin; Can, Gulin FeryalThis study proposes an advanced Modified KEmeny Median Indicator Rank Accordance (KEMIRA-M) approach based on stochastic evaluation process considering consistent weights to improve effective usage of KEMIRA-M. In the proposed approach, tasks related to the decision issue are performed by decision makers to ensure the understanding sufficiency of alternatives in terms of criteria more clearly. The weighting procedure of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is implemented in a stochastic manner benefited from discrete uniform distribution to provide obtaining consistent criteria weights considering median priority components. Therefore, different trials including different number of replications that shows the number of decision makers are performed and the most consistent weightings are determined for each trial in the stochastic process. In this way, the dependency to the limited numbers of decision makers and to determine criteria weights in a heuristic manner in KEMIRA-M is prevented. Additionally, the effect of the number of decision makers on criteria weightings and alternatives' ranking process is shown. To obtain the most consistent weighting results, this stochastic process is utilized until acquiring approximate consistency ratios. The proposed stochastic KEMIRA-M approach is utilized to rank nine shopping malls (SMs) in Ankara in terms of technical criteria (TC) and universal design criteria (UDC). It was seen from the ranking results that the first SM (SM1) is the best one.
