    Does the sex of comedians affect the audience’s sense of humor?

    This research investigates how the sex of comedians influences the perception of jokes among audiences. The study focuses on differences in audience reactions to how funny, quality and clever they perceive the joke when jokes are delivered by male versus female comedians. Grounded in evolutionary perspective and Social Identity Theory, which emphasizes the role of group identities in shaping perceptions and behaviors, this study aims to uncover how the sex of the comedians influences humor perception by particularly focusing on sex as an intergroup context. To test these, an experimental design was administered. The sample of the study consists of 132 people living in Türkiye. The data were analyzed using MANOVA. The results indicated that both men and women were equally funny when delivering the same joke. Therefore, the sex of the comedian does not influence the audience's perception and appreciation of humor. Bu araştırma, komedyenlerin cinsiyetinin izleyicilerin mizah algısını nasıl etkilediğini araştırmaktadır. Çalışma, şakalar erkek ve kadın komedyenler tarafından yapıldığında izleyicilerin espriyi ne kadar komik, kaliteli ve zekice algıladıklarına dair tepkilerindeki farklılıklara odaklanmaktadır. Evrimsel perspektif ve grup kimliklerinin algı ve davranışları şekillendirmedeki rolünü vurgulayan Sosyal Kimlik Teorisine dayanan bu çalışma, özellikle gruplar arası bir bağlam olarak cinsiyete odaklanarak komedyenlerin cinsiyetinin mizah algısını nasıl etkilediğini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bunları test etmek için deneysel bir tasarım uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemi Türkiye'de yaşayan 132 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Veriler MANOVA kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçlar, aynı espriyi yaparken hem erkeklerin hem de kadınların eşit derecede komik olduğunu göstermiştir. Dolayısıyla, komedyenin cinsiyeti izleyicinin mizah algısını ve beğenisini etkilememektedir.
