Item A Comparision of Axillary with Infrared Tympanic and Non-Contact Infrared Thermometry(2016) Coban, Bayram; Dolgun, Anil; 0000-0002-2693-0666; D-4235-2013Objective: Ideally, the temperature measurement should be safe, easy, noninvasive, cost effective, time efficient and technique independent and should precisely reflect core body temperature and should not be influenced by the environmental temperature. In our study, we compared the axillary digital with infrared tympanic and forehead non-contact infrared measurement. Material and Methods: Axillary digital, tympanic infrared and non-contact forehead measurements were taken simultaneously with devices used in hospital routinely. Results: Temperature was measured for 276 patients between 0 and 14 years old. Infrared tympanic measurements were significantly higher than axillary (p<0.001) and non-contact infrared measurements (p<0.001). There was no difference between axillary and forehead measurements (p=0.999). Feverish patients who measured by axillary method was not detected in 11.6% of tympanic and 41.9% of non-contact forehead measurements. Conclusion: Tympanic infrared measurements are higher than axillary digital and non-contact infrared measurements. Temperature measurement must be reassured with other techniques in case of any doubt.Item Diagnosis of Streptococcal Tonsillopharyngitis(2014) Coban, Bayram; Topal, BurhanItem Evaluation of Rotavirus Gastroenteritis in Children: Five Years' Surveillance in Alanya, Antalya(2014) Coban, Bayram; Topal, Burhan; 25341600Rotavirus infection is the major cause of fatal diarrhea among children younger than five years. We aimed to determine the frequency of rotavirus infection according to age, gender and month of the year. From April 2008 through March 2013, 3,106 fresh stool specimens of children under the age of 16 years were tested for rotavirus antigen, and rotavirus antigen was detected as positive in 422 (13.6%) patients. Half of the patients (208/422, 49.3%) were younger than two years. 40.9% (173/422) of all rotavirus gastroenteritis cases were detected in winter months. The ratio of rotavirus positivity in all laboratory studies was highest (19.3%) in February.Item Rotavirus Vaccines(2016) Coban, Bayram
