Item Impacts of the First World War on Africa and Colonialism(2014) Erol, Mehmet Seyfettin; Bingol, Oktay; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4794-5656; AAA-5129-2020The impacts of the First World War on Africa and the colonialism in Africa are a subject which is not sufficiently studied in the disciplines of political and military history, political science, and international relations. In this article, it is aimed to partially fill the gap in question. In this context, the conduct of the First World War battles in Africa and their effects on the Continent have an importance. In addition, the exploitation of human and other resources of the Africa by the colonial powers, especially Britain and France, in the battles fought in European fronts is an issue to focus on. In this respect, the colonial recruitment practices, the resistance of indigenous peoples, the employment of Africans in the battles and the casualty rates are noteworthy. The war's contribution to the national liberation struggles and the changes emerged in the colonialism fact also need to be emphasized. The First World War has had significant negative effects on Africa in the economic, social and military fields. German colonies changed hands between the victors of the First World War and colonialism with all the violence has continued. But the war gave the first spark of the national liberation movements in Africa.Item Psychic Distance Between Turkey and Central Asian Turkish Republics(2014) Sumer, Selay Ilgaz; Uner, M. MithatPsychic distance has an important role in selecting the country markets and determining the suitable strategies for these markets. This study was conducted to examine the import and export activities between Turkey and Central Asian Turkish Republics and to undertand the psychic distance between these countries and Turkey. As a result of the investigation it was found that Azerbaijan is the closest and Turkmenistan is the farthest country to Turkey. It is believed that the study will contribute to the literature of the Turkish World by examining the commercial activities between Turkey and related countries from the perspective of psychic distance.Item The Pattern of Stable Personality in Predicting the Subjective Well-Being: The Mediating Role of Psychological Capital(2015) Cetin, Fatih; Turgut, Hakan; Sozen, H. Cenk; 0000-0002-2487-9553; J-8116-2015The concept of subjective well-being that is considered to be counterpart of the "happiness" in the psychological science is one of the indicators of how individuals think and sense their lifetime. The main purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the big five personality in the light of the genetic or personality theories and psychological capital with regards to the process or activity theories on the subjective well-being, and to seek for the mediating role of the psychological capital in this process. The data were collected at twelve-day intervals from 361 employees working in various positions in a courier company with using survey method. The survey battery comprised of Well-being Scale, Big Five Personality Scale and Psychological Capital Scale. The data were analyzed with using Amos v20.0 and SPSS v20.0 programs. The findings showed a significant positive relationship between extraversion, agreeableness, psychological capital and subjective well being, and a significant negative relationship between neuroticism and subjective well being. In addition to that psychological capital mediated the relationship between the extroversion and subjective well being. The results allowed researchers to make casual inferences about the relationship between stable personality characteristics and psychological attributes indicated as intraindividual distal and proximal context in the well being literature.Item Paradoxical Leadership Model(2018) Basar, Ufuk; Basim, H. Nejat; 0000-0003-0008-5131; J-2510-2016; ABD-9381-2021The aim of this research is to develop a new theoretical leadership model, which explains the dark and bright sides of leadership with a holistic view, and thereby, to trigger a new debate through bringing in a new perspective to leadership phenomenon in the light of extant theories. In this respect, following a review of historical development process of leadership theories, drawing on LMX theory a new theoretical leadership model was developed. Because it explains dark and bright behaviors of a leader with a holistic view, this new model was defined as paradoxical leadership model. Theoretical and practical implications of paradoxical leadership model, as well as how new avenues will be opened for researchers in the future were discussed.
