Çalışmanın hazırlanmasının en temel nedenlerinden biri gözmerkezci bakışa karşı bir eleştiridir. Gözün ön plana çıkması ve diğer duyuların arka plana itilmesi mekan içinde kimlik, karakter ve ruhtan yoksun mekanların oluşmasına neden olmaktadır. Mekan deneyimi ve algı bir bütündür. Mekansal deneyim algıların ortaya çıkardığı anlamlar ile bir anlam kazanmaktadır. Hayatı duyusal bağlamlarla ilişkili olan Peter Zumthor mimarisinde duyuları ön plana çıkararak mekana atmosferi yaratma çabası içindedir. Duyuların, mekanı biçimlendirişi, mimari tasarım faktörlerinin kullanış ve uygulanış biçimini de etkilemektedir. Mekan, tüm duyulara hitap etmelidir. Duyular bütündür ve mekan bütün olarak algılanmaktadır. Peter Zumthor'un deneyim ve duyular mimarlığından yola çıkarak hazırlanan tez çalışmasında Zumthor'a ait deneyim ve duyular mekanı olan üç adet yapı incelenmiştir. Vals kaplıcalarının detaylı olarak ele alındığı bu çalışma göz merkezciliğe bir başkaldırı niteliğinde hazırlanmıştır. The experience of space is realized through spatial perception. Developing and changing lifestyles with modernization also cause changes in architecture. As a result of the user's desires and needs turning to instant consumption, it has brought the sense of sight to the forefront in architecture and all other areas and pushed other senses into the background. One of the main reasons for the preparation of the study is a criticism against the eyecentred view. Bringing the eye to the forefront and pushing other senses into the background cause spaces to be devoid of identity, character and spirit. Space experience and perception are a whole. Spatial experience gains a meaning with the meanings revealed by the perceptions. Peter Zumthor, whose life is associated with sensory contexts, strives to create atmosphere in the space by bringing the senses to the fore in his architecture. The way the senses shape the space also affects the use and application of architectural design factors. The place should appeal to all the senses. The senses are whole and the space is perceived as a whole. In the thesis study, which was prepared based on Peter Zumthor's architecture of experience and senses, three structures belonging to Zumthor, which are places of experience and senses, were examined.
