Abstract

The rapid development of digitalization and blockchain technology has facilitated the widespread adoption of smart contracts. Unlike traditional contracts, smart contracts are digital agreements that can automatically execute themselves and operate on a blockchain. These technological innovations require new regulations and approaches in the field of law. This thesis examines the impact of smart contracts on consumer law. First, the technical structure and operation of smart contracts are addressed. The fundamental principles of blockchain technology and the detailed workings of smart contracts are explained. Subsequently, the thesis discusses how smart contracts affect mechanisms for protecting consumer rights and the potential challenges this new technology poses for consumer law. In the final section, recommendations are provided for aligning smart contracts with consumer law. Proposals are developed on how the existing legal framework can be updated and what measures should be taken to protect consumer rights. These recommendations are crucial for ensuring that legal regulations keep pace with technology and that consumer rights are protected in the digital age.
