Item Comparison of Physical Activity, Dual-Task Performance, and Cognitive Skills Between Problematic Video Game Players and Control Subjects(2022) Maden, Cagtay; Turhan, Begumhan; Sari, Erkin O.; Bayramlar, Kezban; 0000-0003-0842-2059; 36475194; GQB-0621-2022Introduction: This study aimed to compare the dual-task and cognitive skills of problematic video gamers and non-problematic video gamers based on the fact that cognitive skills (e.g., inhibition, decision-making, attentional control, time perception) and dual-task performance may be positively affected in individuals who play games. Methods: The study was conducted on 62 individuals. The study group (n=33) consisted of individuals who played games, and the control group (n=28) consisted of non-gamers. Their scores on exercise benefits and barriers perception, cognitive performance, cognitive skills, and dual-task performances were measured. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale was used to evaluate cognitive function, and the Trail Making Test (TMT) was used to determine attention, speed, and better motor performance. The Stroop test was used to evaluate executive functioning. Results: It was determined that the problematic game players group was faster at the Stroop 1 and Stroop 2 test times (respectively p=0.020, p=0.005). In the comparison of dual task-cognitive 10-meter walking) test times of both groups, it was seen that individuals in the problematic game players group were faster than the control subjects (p=0.044). Conclusion: It can be said that playing digital games improves the cognitive dual-task cost (DTC) and the executive functioning of individuals.Item Comparison of Physical Activity, Functional Fitness and Fatigue According to Gender in Young-old(2023) Maden, Tuba; Sari, Erkin Oguz; Turhan, Begumhan; Maden, Cagtay; 0000-0003-0842-2059; B-8254-2018Objective: The aim of this study was to compare physical activity, functional fitness and fatigue levels according to gender in young-old. Materials and Methods: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short form was administered to a total of 55 young-old. Muscle strength, functional capacity, and fatigue were respectively evaluated with the Lafayette manual muscle tester, a 6-minute walking test, and the fatigue severity scale.Results: It was observed that there was no difference in terms of physical activity, functional capacity, and the percentage of normal values in the proximal muscles (p>0.05). The proximal muscle force of males was higher than female individuals (p<0.05). The scores of female individuals on the fatigue severity scale were higher than male individuals (p<0.05).Conclusion: The young-old stage, a major transition period for old adults, is an adoption process to the changing work and family life. The similarity of parameters may be due to the fact that major health differences reflected by gender were not observed in this period.Item Comparison of the Post Treatment Outcomes of a Conservative Physiotherapy Protocol for Subacromial Impingement Syndrome in Terms of Acromion Morphology(Başkent Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi, 2024-04-19) Turhan, Beguemhan; Dogan, Hilal; Maden, CagtayObjective: The present study aimed to compare the results of a conservative physiotherapy (CP) protocol for subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) in terms of the morphological types of acromion. Methods: Fifty patients participated in the present study, and they were divided into 3 groups according to the acromion morphology types. A 8-week CP (4-week treatment period at the clinic and, in addition, an exercise program at home for 4 weeks) was applied to all patients. The patients were evaluated in terms of pain (at rest and activity) by the Visual Analog Scale, range of motion (ROM), joint position sense (laser pointer), muscle strength (digital dinamometer), and functionality (the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, SPADI) before and after the treatment. Result: In the pre- and post-treatment changes (delta), the shoulder flexion angle increased less in the type 3 group than in the type 1 and type 2 groups (p<0.05). In the shoulder abduction angle, there was a similar increase in the type 3 group compared to the type 2 group, while there was less increase in the type 1 group (p<0.05). It was determined that there was more deviation in the change value of shoulder abduction position sense in the type 3 group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). There was no difference between the groups in the change values of pain, muscle strength, or the SPADI score (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Type 3 acromion may have a handicap in improving shoulder flexion and abduction ROM and shoulder abduction position compared to other types.
