Aşık Veysel ve Leonard Cohen’in sözlerinde aşk ve tanrı
Özet
Bu tez yirminci yüzyıl Anadolu ozanlarından Âşık Veysel’i ve Batı ozanlarından Leonard
Cohen’in şarkı sözlerinde “aşk” ve “Tanrı” konularına yaklaşımlarını karşılaştırmayı
hedeflemektedir. Her iki ozan eserlerinde bu iki konuyu derinlemesine işlemiştir. Fakat
konulara yaklaşım ve çıkarılan sonuçlar büyük farklar göstermektedir. Tasavvuf felsefesi
Âşık Veysel’in şiirlerinde Allah inancı açıktır fakat Leonard Cohen’in
Âşık Veysel’in temsil ettiği geleneksel inanç
This thesis aims to compare the approach to the themes of love and God in the lyrics of
two twentieth century minstrels, namely Anatolian Âşık Veysel and Leonard Cohen of the
Western world. While both have delved in depth into these themes within their lyrics, their
approach and the conclusions reached are vastly different. One of the last representatives
of traditional Anatolian minstrelsy which originates from Islamic mysticism and the
wisdom of Haci Bektaş Veli, Aşık Veysel’s work holds love and Allah together as two
inseperables. Love is understood ultimately as the love of Allah and all earthly (or
allegorical) love is but a veil between the lover and the loved One. The purpose hidden
within the symbolic writing is the lifting of the veil so that reunion with the Beloved may
finally take place. For Leonard Cohen on the other hand, love and God are matters
independent of each other. Hailing from troubadourism, the western equivalent of the
tradition, Cohen’s take on love is that of romantic love between man and woman, but
contrary to the core of the art, Cohen deems love a dangerous state of being one must
escape rather than pursue. As for his idea of God, it is a conglomeration of different
models of belief dressed over a fundamentally existentialist outlook. In Cohen’s work,
God, though adressed sincerely at times with some desire to bond, the general attitute is
one of blame and defiance, resulting in skepticism. Hence, while in Veysel’s poems belief
in God is self-evident, the same cannot be said of Cohen’s work. Finally, both poets are
triggered by melancholy in their writing, but while Veysel’s work, loyal to tradition,
transforms melancholy to hope, that of Cohen, whose style is derived from reshaping the
traditional to fit his own understanding, aesthetisizces despair. This aesthetics of despair
has been and contintues to be a major milieu to singer songwriters worldwide. Minstrelsy
based on a tradional belief system however, represented here by Âşık Veysel, remains a
cultural rarity.
