The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the variables and whether there is
a mediator effect of negative metacognitions in the relationship between perceived parental
attitude, family structure and individuals' social anxiety levels. The sample of the study
consisted of 333 individuals between the ages of 18-25; 222 females (67.7 %) and 111 males
(33.3%) were included in the study. The Family Structure Evalution Tool, Egna Minnen
Barndoms Uppfostran /EMBU, Metacognitive Scale-30, Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale and
personal information form were used for data collection. Developmental models were
evaluated with Structural Equation Model (SEM). In the study, it is seen that the mother and
father attitude has an indirect predictive effect on metacognition through family structure and
family structure has an indirect predictive effect on social anxiety level through
metacognition. In other words, the increase in the excessive protection and rejection attitude
perceived by the mother and father, the decrease in the emotional temperature attitude of the
mother and father, and the decline of the harmony of family structure predicted the level of
social anxiety by weakening the positive metacognitive beliefs. It is seen that the relationships
predicted by the model explain 30 % of the variance of social anxiety level of the participants.
The findings were discussed in the light of literature.
